I was off work all last week, and so it was lots of late nights drinking and watching films. I saw a good few, although not all good. So here's Slarti's guide to whats hot and whats not this week!!
Meet the Fockers: below par not as good as original
Hitch: Actually quite a good movie, quite funny although the big man in it (kevin someone from King of Queens) was more impressive than Wil Smith.
Man on Fire: Denzel Washington does it again. great film but a little too long and slows down too much in parts
Constantine: solid sci-fi/horror stuff, if you like this kinda film, which I do, then it's worth a watch
The Machinist: dark and thought provoking, Bale is excellent. Watch it.
Batman Begins: Brilliant, tops the other batman films. Dark and character driven, again Bale is excellent.
Lost in Translation: understated and subtle peice of work. Great viewing although very little actually happens in the film. Worth a watch.
Have heard very bad reports on War of the Worlds. Fantastic Four is out soon and I'll be seeing it for one reason: jessica alba!
I'm glad you recommended The Machinist. I've been looking forward to this, but haven't known of anyone who has seen it. Christian Bale is superb in everything he does.
The last film i watched was Alien v Predator was quite good actually!

I watched the Machinist and new Batman on the same day, and the difference between him in the two films is amazing. He really bulked up for Batman, but in the Machinist he is so thin he looks really ill.

Easily a 9.5 out of 10 for me. It's a superb film. I really want to see this movie, but I still haven't got around to it. Jim Carrey was also excellent in The Truman Show, which I can recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it.

It's one of those films that you find yourself watching over and over again, and noticing something different every time. The whole film is like nothing I've ever seen before, but it's still watchable and not at all arty-farty. I couldn't recommend it highly enough, especially as you can pick it up for about £7.99 now.
Jim Carrey is also excellent in Man On The Moon. Even though it's a biopic about another comedian, his acting is exemplary.
James
28-08-2005, 11:59 PM
Yes, the acting is very good in it. Jim Carrey is an excellent serious actor aswell as a comic.

300 at the cinema,
Great movie, very dubious politics - had to switch off from some of the dialogue, embarrassing - easy to switch off the dialogue, even in the cinema considering the visuals and how great it looks and sounds overall-
but oh God - Leonidus going on about how "Freedom isn't free", it just brought me back to the song from Team America World Police,
"Feedom isn't free
It costs Folks like you and me,
and if you don't throw in your buck -oh five, who will ?"
SPARTA - ******* Yeah
Callaterall (sp?) I thought it was alright not the greatest I was pleasantly surprised to find Jamie Foxx can act.
