Do you think the Jade Goody/Shilpa Shetty race row on CBB ruined Big Brother in the UK? Have a look at this interesting video which Sky News covered at the time.

Anyone who hasnt noticed this by now is blind!!
Yeah it has and I hate it because everything is too controlled now and I`ll probley be hated for sayen this... Jade Goody ruined BB for everyone, be intresting to see if the producers lighten up abit and stop being so carefull with what they show now that Jade isnt here.

 Sorry, Not everyone needs to love her, they didnt when she was on BB why now!

Yes, its too watered down now because its under so much scrutiny and people complain over nothing these days. If BB5, 6 or the first week of 7 aired today it would be taken off air

Yes , it killed BB. BB7 was great, probably the last good series of BB.

Yes. The media blew it way out of proportion, as per usual with everything.

It wasn't even racism, just bullying, yet even the Prime Minister decided to jump on the ****ing band-wagon and comment, I mean WTF. So yeah, after that for BB8 the producers decided to make sure nothing was controversial, whilst still making the series as successful as possible, and that failed. Miserably.

Then for BB9, the producers actually gave the series a good go, with the 'Zero Tolerance' theme, but sadly that was never even carried out through the series.

For BB10 it's looking promising with the 'It's not what you expect it to be...' slogan, let's just hope they can keep that up.

danielle loyd and jo from s club 7 said more well.. semi racial things.. !

yeah it was blown out of proportion in the media.. but yeah since that series.. the next series was series 8 of bb.. and the ratings started sliding down.. wel slided down drastically i think?

so yeah i think the racism row ruined big brother a bit...

but that happened like 2-2 and a half years ago now!!

i think bb10 is new and fresh and ready to be up there in the major ratings :D

I do think the race row did ruin BBUK. As a result of that, C4 are too uptight as Ofcom are watching their EVERY move

Yes - not the incident itself, but how the producers reacted to it both in the short term and the long term.

I think it is BB7 which ruined Big Brother
That series used every twist imaginable which would obviously make it difficult for future series to compete and also the biased editing really came out in BB7, it just became really apparent that the producers were in control and that it wasn't reality TV anymore. The one moment which sums up why BB7 is to blame is Nikki going back into the house
The race row and all female launch of BB8 didn't help matters either and after the race row British TV changed forever. Edgy, controversial shows now weren't as popular and the producers of Big Brother did lose their bottle.
For me BB7 would always lead to Big Brother's downfall but with the producers losing their bottle and the show losing its identity it just sped up the process

Its been thrown around by the producers the commissioning editor for C4 that was interviewed in the press pack and on the official bb twitter as well as the title for the official vids on youtube!

The race row was the 2nd blow out of the many blows:

1st mistake- Nikki back in
2nd mistake- Race Row
3rd Mistake- All female launch BB8
4th mistake- Trying to save Charley
5th mistake- The pointless additions to BB8 and having about 20 Hms at the same time from the other house.
6th mistake- CBB6 as a whole
7th mistake- LF Axe

I agree with mazed, it's no one thing but a series of events that slowly lead to this point.

It may not be ruined but there's no denying that the popularity and viewing figures have gone down...do you think this is because of the race row?

It's not ruined but it certainly changed the whole approach of the show. I think it all started in BB7 then the rest was a series of events.
The race row could have been great for the show, knowing it brought a lot of publicity.
However, the way C4 handled it was terrible and made the viewers not being attracted by the show anymore.
I think the BB8 launch was a good idea, it didn't work so well but it wasn't a mistake.

From BB7 included, the producers are scared to push it further like they did in BB5, which is a shame. Let's face it, we'll never be back into the old age, we have to deal with what we have got now and it's still good.

The race row did kill bbuk. All blown up out of proportion by the press. Jade made good viewing, she was a legend. Most people loved her, but disliked some of the things she did, which in my eyes, was a true star. Big brother i hope can be brought back to its former glorry.

The race row was one nail of many in the coffin for BB.

The production was never the same after BB6 & BB7.

IMO: BB8 was the Biggest Killer

It was supposed to be the big comeback, however, it was just so irrelevant, the housemates didn't suit the house, so that spoilt both, the housemate where let down by the house, and the house let down by the housemates.

It would have been a totally different series had both guys and girls gone in on the same night!

So overall, i think production of BB8 killed BB!

(here's hoping BB10 will be a success!)
