You do games in C&G.

But otherwise I dunno.

Chat and games is generally about other members and things they have done, want to say etc and games.

General chat is about all sorts.

I Think.

General Chat are supposed to be topics everyone can reponse to like 'What color eyes do you have?' etc. C&G is games and private jokes.

C&G is about games (obv) but also chat about a certain area which could lead to certain other things

General Chat is more like a topic a thread where only that topic should be discussed in that particular thread

Hmms...

It seems to me that the whole thing ought to be one....

or...

If it's two, then make one called 'Chat' and one called 'Games'.

Post counts can be voided in both if need be... this question actually doesn't relate to the post count issue. I just wondered where I'd put a general off-topic thread.

It would seem at the moment, that any of those sections would cover it, which leads me to my question about whether both of them are necessary.

Not that I'm going to lose sleep over it. It just popped into my head and found it's way to my fingertips. :spin:

Yeah like Cult's etc. should be in GC to get your post count up.

Good point. I can understand the logic in not having Games count towards your post count; but a lot of the stuff that would come under 'Chat' could easily be in General Chat. Why not just make the switch; make C&G just Games and General Chat is just for any kind of conversation?

Seriously, I don't mind if there's no post count in either section. That's not really what I was getting at.

I just think TiBB has 2 sections which are pretty much the same.

Yeah; but it does come into play a bit. I would have assumed the reason there's no post count in Chat and Games is because it'd be silly for someone to get say 10,000 posts for being active in several games and posting in threads that are essentially in jokes. A lot of things that are filed under Chat and Games are quite good, quality threads that would be better off in General Chat, in my opinion, so I don't really understand why there's still a difference between the two? Games should be kept as a separate forum; and the 'Chat' part should just be removed from the title I guess. Topics like The Lounge and the Brotherhood etc should maybe stay under Games though; because they're jokey things?

Yeah. That's a good idea.

I've posted one or two 'off-topic' threads with an actual purpose in General Chat, and they get moved to C&G.

I dunno who moves them or why, but this is when I ask myself what GC is actually for.

Uhmmm it might be me, I always seem to be moving C&G and General Chat... :P

Have post count for both sections and just rename C&G Games and Genral Chat Chat. Easy as pie.

I honestly don't think it would be you Sia, cuz I'm talking about threads I posted months back, so that would be before you were mod.

I wonder what the criteria is for a thread to be worthy of GC lol

My assumption has always been that General Chat is for proper discussion topics that don't fit into any other boards, while Chat & Games is for really off topic chat (the "Hello, how are you" sort of stuff) and of course games.

Tom

I always thought Chat & Games was for injokes, to say about your day or whatever and to play games, and I thought General Chat was just to discuss everything else ....

Nope they are just a game in themsleves really and they are generally about other members so they are for chat and games.

Hmms... makes sense in a way, but like I say, there have been threads which were general off-topic, and they get moved to C&G.

I wonder if the post count was abolished in both sections, there'd be less shuffling.

If post count was abolished in both sections it would be pointless having the two sections and pointless posting.

Why? Who cares about postcount?

lily.

This is why threads get moved.

People make a thread in GC to boost post count, and mods move it to C&G so it doesn't.

Then when a genuine GC thread is posted, it gets moved cuz mods are suspicious it's a post-count-booster.

Abolishing post count in C&G all those years ago (something I was in support of at the time) seems to have created a situation where threads are moved because they appear to be post-count-boosters.

I'm thinking that abolishing post count in that section has created more work for mods than they originally had.

Also, Harry, post-count is irrelevant. Why does it matter to you?

Harry!
31-05-2009, 11:40 AM
Because it just does thats all.

Stu

I seriously did not think that ever even happened. Why do people care about postcount, ESPECIALLY on a forum where your specific count is never shown on your posts, just things like 5,000+.

lily.
31-05-2009, 11:41 AM
Again, that was something which was campaigned for years ago Stu, and I was part of that campaign, cuz people were constantly obsessing over post-count, and spamming every thread.

Lauren

Members like Harry ruin it for members who want to keep the post count, but don't spam. A lot of people just like to see how many posts they've made, but don't place importance on it.

Whereas other members use it as a status-grabber, higher post counts = higher reputation, popularity etc.

I honestly don't care about my post count, but as Lauren pointed out, others do.

But, you shouldn't place so much importance on it Harry. At the end of the day, the quality of your posts, and the contribution you make to the forum is a better reflection on you as a member.
