POP star Kylie Minogue has revealed she is to have emergency surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

A statement released by the star's management company this morning said: "Whilst at home in Melbourne with her family this week prior to her Australian Showgirl Tour, Kylie was diagnosed with early breast cancer".

The 36-year-old-singer has postponed the 20-date Australian leg of her world tour to undergo immediate treatment.

In a statement to her fans, Kylie said: "I was so looking forward to bringing the Showgirl tour to Australian audiences and am sorry to have to disappoint my fans.

"Nevertheless, hopefully all will work out fine and I'll be back with you all again soon."

The Australian star, who has had a total of 38 hit singles in the UK in a music career spanning 18 years, had been due to play a headline slot at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

I wish Kylie luck in her treatment, it seems it has been caught early and the prognosis hopefully will be good.

However this will give breast cancer a further boost in awareness to a lot of people who may have dismissed it. After doing the Race for Life at the week-end along with several thousand others alongside people who have lost someone or who have recovered, anything that helps to promote the need for research can only be a good thing.

On an upbeat note, my friend who was diagnosed last year is doing well and joined us in the race.
