Insider jacob says..
I’ve just heard from another production member that one of our producers is meeting a Channel 4 bigwig regarding the live feed situation.
Despite giving out a clear reason on the website for the reduction of live feed, we’re still receiving a lot of complaints every single day.
The problem isn’t at our end, but it’s Channel 4’s decision. We want the fans to enjoy the whole Big Brother experience and ideally that would include the live feed. However due to certain goals that Channel 4 have outside of our control, it’s not currently possible to offer the service.
It’s important to know, though, that this is not a “crisis meeting” or what have you. We’ve been happy about how the series has gone so far, but it’s important that the complaints are being addressed. It’s been the most complained about topic to Channel 4 over the last three months.
I am seriously not sure.
I know a lot of the staff including myself are angry about the negative reaction the show is getting especially by the big fans. Naturally we’re used to negative publicity by the wider public, but not my our own fans to such an extent.
We’re working harder than ever to produce a brilliant series. I think many will appreciate that the full house is extraordinary and a lot of work has gone into making it that good.
All I know is that the main topic of discussion for the meeting will be the complaints about the live feed. The likelihood is that Channel 4 won’t budge. Even if they did, the service would not be reinstated immediately, it would take time.

I bloody hope this is true, and if they decide to bring it back it'll be the best decision in the history of the show.
This series is set to be incredible by the looks of things, and the only thing that's missing is Live Feed.
I will be extremely happy if they decide to bring it back, which I don't think will happen. I might even send a thank you letter to C4 if they do tbh.

They don't need to show it 24/7 but could show the live feed via red button from 6pm - 6am, and 11.05pm - 6pm on E4 (which has been the normal time so far)

well if you a virgin media user the red button is still there but when you press the red button just comes with a sign saying channel4 are not giving additional live feed this year.....so red button is still there!

It's not an 'emergency' meeting. But it is a meeting between Endemol staff and people from C4 to discuss the 'overwhelmingly negative' feedback Endemol have been receiving with regard to BB10, mostly over the loss of LF. When the people actually making the show are extremely unhappy, you know something is very wrong....

Well, we haven't even had three full days of BB10 yet and thus far they've had the lowest ever audience for the live launch, the lowest ever audience for the first highlights show, and one of the lowest ever audiences of any kind, ever, last night. And that's despite poor weather and no significant competition.
Channel 4 have no choice but to bring back the live feed. Well, they do, but the alternative is to pull the show mid-series and lose a bucket load of cash.

How low would the ratings need to go for mid series axing?

I'd be surprised if they actually put more live feed on the schedules. Scheduling is ussually done months in advance, It'd be surprising if they changed the E4 schedules to fit in more Live Feed,

Last night actually held up well in comparison to previous years Saturday shows. It wasn't the least watched ever show either. BB1 lost half of its audience overnight and had to build it back up again, and did so very well.
I think they need to leave it for a few days first (say Wednesday) and see how things settle, whether they increase or decrease then make a decision about live feed.

Oh stop being so melodramatic. Shameless doesn't get pulled half way through because it only gets 2.5m and thats a much more expensive show.

It was the second least watched Saturday highlights show ever- why can't you understand that?!
The 1st Saturday highlights show is usually one of the highest for Saturdays in the entire series. It is downhill from now on.
You can't compare it to BB1- that's absurd. Because BB1 was a completely new programme which no one knew about. Utterly stupid comparing it to that.

They wouldn't need to change any scheduling...? The show would be played via the red button/interactive whilst the shows on E4 are still being played...?

The series won't get axed, the ratings are fine. Just not as much as previous series... still better than other program's.
Doubt live feed is coming back, they are just meeting to address the complaints and prove they are not ignoring them, if they think its what is best they will do that.

That is a good middle ground to make Channel 4 and viewers happy.

I don't really think it'll be coming back though, I mean just look at how C4 have treated the show so far. They really need to think carefully because Big Brother is one of their biggest shows, and I think it's time they took into consideration that the fans want it back, and without the fans there would be no Big Brother.
I think they need to think about how much effort is being put into this series by Endemol, and how it looks so far to be one of the best series, IMO anyway.

It's averaging around 2-3 million at the moment (higher 2's).
So it looks like it will be fine.

Yes, but they can sell Shameless all over the world, and do. BBUK is a current thing and won't ever be repeated or sold to other markets.

Ratings are NOT fine. Edgar-Jones said 3m average needed for the show to continue. Needs at the very least 2.5m to be viable. Yes, other C4 shows get far fewer viewers, but they also cost a fraction to make.
Nope, things are seriously on the slide. The LF will return - or BB will be pulled.

It wasn't the least watched by a huge margin though was it? And series' buck ratings trends all the time, there is no reason why BB10 can't do the same.

Expectations and levels of profitability are two different things. The show will stay on air as long as it is profitable, and even if the ratings go below 2m, as it is a very cheap show to produce it will still be profitable, just not as profitable.

They'll budge. They're already sh*tting themselves because they thought just a few sad cases would be protesting...and instead they've got a massive backlash on their hands. C4 have a duty to their shareholders and are a public service broadcaster - no way are they getting public money if they continue to ride roughshod over their viewers. The govt. is watching them and they know it. This is an unmitigated PR disaster for Channel 4.

BB only pulled in 2.1m last night including 4+ that's the lowest viewing figure ever for a Saturday night.
I think they will pull it, unless they do something dramatic to get the viewers back on side, but I don't think Ch4 care about the show any way.
Cant see them back tracking on the live feed issue.

Channel 4 paid for the contract based on the fact that it was getting around 4.5 million.
If it falls to 2m consistently, then they won't be pleased at all.
It will result in the show being axed after its contract ends, or them paying so cheaply for the show and probably won't give a toss about it.

You're still missing the point though. If you look at what Channel 4 paid for BB10 alone (by dividing the overall cost up evenly), then the average cost per show, its a very low figure where 4 adverts could easily pay for each nightly show. Yes, the figures were once high and thats why the paid then, but it is still very profitable and even if the plug is pulled after next year, it won't be axed midway through the series just because it isn't rating as expected. As long as it is still making money, and it will be, then it will stay on air.

I accept the show is profitable. But it's nowhere near as good as it was even 3 years ago.
You tell me a television programme in British television that has lost more than 30% of viewers over the last 3 years. 30% is how much BB has lost. I doubt you can find an answer to that. Neighbours doesn't count because it moved from BBC1 to Five.
The fact is that BB's decline is so huge compared to what most other shows is seeing.
And what I'm amost annoyed with is the way fans are being treated. This is not BB without live feed.
You know perfectlty well from that posts I made a few weeks back that I was in favour of C4's decision. But I've done a complete U Turn on it because it's frankly obvious that this is not what the show is supposed to be about.
Fans are tuning off in their droves. It's highly embarrasing for C4 and Endemol.

The funny thing is, the live feed isn't even live rofl.
It has a 15 minute delay so producers can edit stuff and only show what they want you to see. Which is basically the same as what they do with the highlights show.

That isn't for the same purposes as they use the HL show for. It is "As Live" and only edited for the purpose of "personal info being divulged" "Swearing" etc.
And that in itself contradicts Channel 4's possible reason of cutting LF being to do w/ OFCOM.

We make up the whole show, not 1/2, if the fans leave, then theyre all ducked, and at the mo the fans are leaving in thier thousands.
Keeping my fingers crossed for return of LF. Again, I'm not voting without it.

Anyone who supports the live feed and wants to see it back, don't forget to e-mail C4 to complain, and Endemol. Only by maintaining the pressure will we win (that and boycotting the main h/l show).

Endemol want the live feed back so its pointless emailing them.

It's not - it adds extra fuel when they talk to C4.

Apparently Davina said on her twitter a few minutes ago
"The LF wont be coming back, not alot watching it"
WTF is her problem?? i used to like her!! But she's just completely being taken around by C4....
This is getting ridiculous, if the 2.2m from last night didnt wake them up, i wonder what will!

Probably.
Jacob has been pretty much spot on with a lot of stuff. He's an Endemol staffer, posts here and IBB.

Everyone doubted him before the launch but he's guessed everything from this years series, eg. Housemates, crates in the house and the description he made of the lounge, and the pics been released and is exactly how he described it.
He also confirmed the eviction tonight by bus stop.

It is, emails must be shared with the production staff so no matter what route you go through then Endemol will get it anyway. Instead of wasting time emailing Endemol, email C4 and get more complaints logged. Everyone but C4 wants the LF back- its their minds that need changing, not Endemols confirming.
