Punishment plan

By Brian Mciver

BIG BROTHER is taking steps to punish naughty housemates during the new series.

If anyone misbehaves they will be sent outside, irrespective of the time or weather, to a red 'step of shame', producers revealed yesterday.

The same tactic is used by Supernanny Jo Frost on her child-care TV show.

Producers also gave a few hints about the contestants, who will enter the house during tonight's live show that kicks off Big Brother 6 . Eleven of the 13 are single, two are gay, two bisexual and one has breast implants - though they would not say whether it is a female or a transsexual.

One will be singled out as the 'Unlucky 13th' housemate and forced to take part in tasks for Big Brother Their identities and home towns were still a secret but producers let slip a few details.

One is an ex-soldier,one is a professional wind surfer and basketball player, and one has a 'high-profile' job.

Big Brother boss Philip Edgar Jones said: 'We're very excited about the housemates we've got this year and we think it will work very well

Channel 4 spokeswoman is quoted in today's Daily Star about the 'high-profile' housemate:

'All we are saying is one of the chosen housemates has a high-profile job. Read into that what you will.'

'It's a big teaser to keep everyone guessing until the last minute'

A 'show source' adds, 'This is not Celebrity Big Brother so we're not talking about a big showbiz star'

Speculation in the paper that it could be someone who works as an MP or in the media.

I think the implication is this person runs a media - or some other - company rather than being a well-known presenter or something like that.

The Daily Star also says that 3 of the 13 are not British.
