It's because it appears that the housemates are starting to gang up on her. She seems to be in her own world and appears left out compared to the others. Viewers love the "underdog" (Susan Boyle anyone?) as you call it, and she fits the bill for them. Plus she ate a raw egg and that's an achievement in itself.

Her birthday party was cute. It was endearing when she said that it was the best party she ever had.

Also, some people feel bad for her after all the times she has been picked on.

And she went to retrieve Halfwit's bed in the bathroom after Cairon put it in there.
