Dang policeman didn't have anything better to do than fine fishers!
Theyre are murderers that they could be catching, and they focus their attention onto unlicensed fishers!!!!

Its not the dumbest law by a long way. For example, dedicated Fish and Chips shops are not allowed to open on Sundays, if they sell say burgers and kebabs too thats ok but if they only sell fish and chips thats illegal. TV licences are just as dumb a law, but in the case of the law you broke I can understand why that one exists.

Do they expect people to use spears?

Was there a sign up saying you need a license? Because if not then surely you can appeal against it they can not fine you if there is nothing that says you need one!

fom its a standard thing countrywide so dont think there would need to be signs up as anyone wanting to fish should know this i know in fishing shops camping shops etc if you buy something fishing related they remind you about the license

Fair enough, I have never been fishing or bought a fishing rod so I don't know what it is all like.

Not everywhere though, I don't think? I haven't been to the mainland in years.
