Crop circle experts believe the latest pattern to be discovered, a phoenix rising from the flames in Wiltshire, may give a warning about the end of the world.

The 400-foot design was discovered in a barley field in Yatesbury near Devizes and depicts the mythical phoenix reborn as it rises from the ashes.
Investigators claim more formations are referencing the possibility of a cataclysmic event occurring on December 21, 2012, which coincides with the end of the ancient Mayan calendar.
The Mayans believed civilisation exists within a series of earth cycles of 144,000 days each with the 13th expiring in December 2012, resulting in Armageddon.
Crop circle enthusiast Karen Alexander, from Gosport, Hants, said: "The phoenix is a mythical creature which symbolises rebirth and a new era in many cultures across the world.
"Within the crop circle community many believe the designs are constantly referring to December 21 and its aftermath.
"This could be interpreted as the human race or earth rising again after a monumental event.
"The patterns are becoming more intricate with every find and it is exciting to think how they are going to evolve by the time we get to 2012."
Recent crop circles have included giant jelly-fish and one image discovered in Wiltshire in June which experts dubbed the most 'mind boggling' they had ever come across.
The formation, measuring 150ft in diameter, is apparently a coded image representing the first 10 digits, 3.141592654, of pi.

Has anything else been discovered making them? Or is there anything saying they just randomly popped up?

No and yes. Nothing has been proved so they remain a mystery. Until I see some FACTS I will remain objective and sceptical.

They could be Harry and most probably are. I don't see how the money side of it comes into it though. I find them intriguing. I mean how can they do things like this overnight in near perfect formations without anyone discovering them? Some of them are magnificent and they can span out over such a huge area.

I remember watching a documentary on them a while back and there were people giving anonymous interviews saying they did it. They creep out at night after months of secret planning and they carefully squash the crops to very precise measurements all of it is carefully rehearsed and they make sure that they don't leave anything or no one see's them.
I remember them using a plank of wood with rope attached to it to flatten the crops. They are people that have admitted to doing them, others like to keep it secret and let people freak out about it and think its aliens... because thats art, something that gets people talking.

Sounds interesting. I didn't catch that. I would like to see it though. I can't believe nobody has ever been filmed doing this.

Mayan 'apocalypse' crop circle appears at Silbury Hill
A 350ft crop circle of an ancient Mayan symbol, said to be a sign of an impending apocalypse, has appeared next to Silbury Hill in Wiltshire.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/BGRAYSHON/mayan_cropCircle_1439358c.jpg
The giant pattern - thought to represent a traditional Mayan head-dress - appeared next to the tallest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe last week.
Members of the crop circle community believe the mystic symbol is a signal of the end of the 5,126-year Mayan 'Long Count' calendar on December 21, 2012.
Karen Alexander, a crop circle enthusiast, said: "This is one of the most interesting crop circles I have ever seen. It is definitely a Mayan symbol and we are sure it is linked to the Mayan calendar, which ends in 2012.
"It appears to be a warning about the world coming to an end when the calendar does. For the ancient Maya, reaching the end of a cycle was a momentous event, so we are taking this crop circle very seriously as an indicator of a possibly huge event in 2012."
Last month a 400-foot crop circle depicting a phoenix rising from the flames appeared in a barley field in Yatesbury near Devizes, Wiltshire.
Crop circle theorists believe the patterns are created by UFOs during nocturnal visits, or caused by natural phenomena such as unusual forms of lightning striking the earth.

Many years ago a newspaper and Radio 4's Farming today issued a challenge to would be human crop circle makers to enter a field, do their thing and get out before dawn.
There were many equisite designs showing that these circles are done by people. In other words hoaxes.
Incidentally it is classed as criminal damage of the crops.
It has no relation to a certain ancient calendar that is due to go through a roll over like our's did at the end of 1999, so lets stop that nonsense here and now :nono:

I never said I believed that they were made by other beings. I just find them fascinating. As I said earlier, I have never heard of anybody being discovered making one.
We had this happen in oxford

was so random! I only realised it happened when a quiz question was about it at our local pub. It was what surprised farmers this week and my team put down 600ft jellyfish and I was like  omg was it real!?

But why do they ALWAYS predict the end of the world to be on the 21st December?? Its the 4th time running where they have said Dec 21st.
How horrible, me not making my 19th birthday as i will die 5 days before it.

It's to do with the Mayan 'Long Count' calendar ending on December 21, 2012. I wouldn't worry about it. There are many "predictions" that never happen.
