Jeremy Clarkson has claimed that his Top Gear co-star The Stig will finally be unmasked in tonight's episode.

The identity of the test driver, who wears a white racing suit and white crash helmet, has remained a mystery for years, prompting several theories about who is really under the mask.

Writing in The Sun, host Clarkson said: "Stig barges into the studio and in an atmosphere that you could cut with a knife removes his helmet.

"Hardened, emotionless camera crews said the hair on the back of their neck prickled. As a television moment, it's up there with Neil Armstrong walking on the... corpse of J.R. Ewing."

Reports had previously suggested that The Stig was actually portrayed by four different individuals, while others have claimed that he is a Norwegian or French racing driver.

Last year, the query 'Who is The Stig?' was revealed to be one of the most frequently searched questions on the internet.

Is it really gonna happen!?! I can see it being a joke but I am eagerly awaiting Top Gear tonight if this is the case.

It does kind of look like Button, but isn't Jenson's eyes blue? Those look kinda dark.

But wasnt the first Stig sacked because everyone found out who it was, so if it was Jenson Button wouldn't he have been sacked too?

I think there's been a few stigs, but the first few were revealed. But this is the longest serving one... iirc.

Yeah sometimes like that :laugh: I THINK I remember a picture of the stig and schumacher together though. I'll see if I can find.

He's not usually The Stig. But when they test some supercars the car manufacturer sends its own test driver. So Ferrari sent Schumacher for the FXX.

When they put the Renault F1 car on the track a few years ago The Stig was Heikki Kovalainen, who was Renault F1 test driver at that time.

I didnt think it could have been Schumacher either. I doubt if Schumacher had the time to test so many cars when he was drving for Ferrari. Also, hasnt Clarkson made some derogatory comments about Scumacher over the years. I doubt Clarrckson would do that if Schumacher was on the Top Gear payroll.

Lol, He obvs isn't The Stig. How on earth would they be able to pay for Michael Schumacher and also why would they have him on since 2002 and just reveal now?

Also they questioned whether it was him at the end of the show. :rolleyes:
