When Anthony Hutton entered the Big Brother house and told everybody he was single it came as news to his neighbours.
They told the Sunday Sun that far from being footloose and fancy free, they believed he had a long-term girlfriend and that they were engaged to be married.
We can also reveal that the 23-year-old dancer, who could pocket £100,000 if he wins the hit reality TV show, was once signed up by a North amateur football club . . . for £75.
But the Sunday Sun has discovered that Anthony split several months ago from former fiancee Leanne Wales, who lives in his hometown of Consett, County Durham, after going out with her for the past four years.
His mum Annette and gran Mary, who Anthony lives with in a terraced house, yesterday described him as single.
And Leanne, a community warden, last night confirmed she and Anthony split up about four months ago, but would not comment further.
A neighbour said: "He and Leanne were together a good three or four years .
"They didn't live together but were engaged.
"I think Leanne must have known he was going on the show because on Friday she had loads of people round and I could hear them all screaming at the telly."
The neighbour added: "Anthony is a lovely lad. He's a real extrovert now but when he was younger he was very quiet."
Anthony is part of 70s club dance outfit Boogie Express, and his camp clothes and manner led many viewers to speculate about him being gay.
Mary, who did not know her son was going into the Big Brother house, reckons he is just as popular with the lads as the ladies.
And former teammates at Whickham FC reckon that while Anthony's fashion sense was often the butt of jokes, he knew how to play the field.
The Northern League club's assistant manager Ross Gregory said: "We signed him from Consett for £75 . . . and he could soon be worth £100,000.
"I couldn't believe it when I saw him on the telly. He is a nice lad and a pretty good footballer . . . he played up front.
"He was a good laugh and got on well with everyone . . . but we did used to take the rip because of his hairstyle, clothes and the fact he was a dancer.
"We would all turn up to training in tracksuits and he'd teeter in on Cuban heels!"
Mary added: "There are homosexuals who proposition him all the time.
"It is because of the clothes he wears and the fact that he is a dancer. He loves his fancy shirts and anything in pink.
"He's really into the girls and has had quite a few girlfriends. When he was a lad it was all football, football, football. That was up until he discovered girls and then it was girls, girls, girls!"
