View Full Version : Death - Does it scare you?

I was just wondering what everyone's feeling were about Death and dying. I'm not doing this in a morbid way, I'm just curious to everyone's feelings towards it as my Uncle passed away this weekend, and I have lost a few family members in my life including my Dad and brothers, and some of my mates are afraid of dying, whereas I look at it as a new beginning and a new life starting somewhere else.

dying doesnt really scare me in the sense of being dead as its a fact of life i nearly lost my dad in 2005 and from that i now live each day as if it could be my last (he had a car accident)
the only part that scares me a bit is the thought of who will be left behind without me in their life

Im not scared of dying... I am more scared of other people dying, I am petrified of the day I lose someone close to me, I never want to experience the world without my mum or sister. I want them here forever, I'd rather I died first tbh.

I'm not scared of drying, I'm frustrated that I won't know what will happen once I'm not here like new technologies and all that stuff. It's frustrating.

Death really doesn't scare me. Of course I would love to live for as long as possible but when it comes I will be fine with it
Like others, I am more scared of losing someone close to me

Death itself doesn't scare me, but having a lingering, painful death like my uncle had with skin-cancer scares the hell out of me. I've always said, if I ever get diagnosed with some lingering, terminal disease, I'm going to put my affairs in order, say my goodbyes, and do myself in.

Death scares me. I don't want to think about growing old and getting ill and being forgotten about and being shunted into some care home... I just don't want to think what it would be like, taking your last breath and all that, just strange to think about, so I just don't think about that kind of thing.

Zac
03-07-2009, 12:02 AM
Nope, it happens to everybody but having a painful death does scare me, I don't believe in the after-life either so I just think that when when you're dead, that's the end of you and your life's over. So no, not scared of death, at all.

anyone who says that death doesn't scare them is a barefaced liar or just mentally retarded.

people who are not concerned about death and their position after death obviously have little intellect and are therefore unable to contemplate and understand death.

It unnerves me, I tend not to think about it much. I accept that it's one day going to happen and it's a fact of life though. I just like to keep it out of mind.

It kinda scares me too when I think about it too much. It's kind of ironic that in my teens I actually wanted to die, and now the though of it happening scares the hell outta me. I can't seem to get a happy medium where I don't wanna die, but aren't scared of it either!

Also, everyone else is so blase about it, saying things like "there's no point in being scared, everyone has to die" as if that's supposed to make you feel any better! Whereas it generally makes me feel worse. I sometimes feel like the only person around who is actually freaked out by the idea of dying.

I know they seem like the same thing, but i'm more scared of my life finishing than death. Like will I know that life is over and just be in existense and stuff, it's weird to think about.

I'm scared of death.
I know it's gonna happen someday but I really hate thinking about it.
Just.. not knowing anything. Not being able to do anything.
Being a corpse. Laying in a coffin buried deep underground, no knowledge, no mind, no thoughts, no breath. Forever.
Just the thought gives me shivers, I hate thinking about it.

So have I little intellect or am I mentally retarded? Just because I'm not that bothered about dying, I mean it's gonna happen why dwell over it.

Jen

I agree with TheMac.
I'm not afraid of dieing as I know there is life after death, it's the fact I will not be living with the people I love, that scares me, the aloneness of death and the fact I will not be living as me.

Yeah but your beyond retarded when you claim you either have to BE retarded or an idiot to not fear death. I dont fear death. I dont WANT it, but I dont fear it either. Their is a difference. So just by me disagreeing with your view on death I am an idiot or mentally retarded? Which is it, oh wise one?

I am more scared of loosing people close to me, like my boyfriend, family, friends etc. But i am also scared of dying myself, because either way, you will be without them, if you die and they are still living then you will be in the spirit world without them, in the after life, but if you continue living and they die, youll be without them because theyre dead and your not.

So its a lose - lose situation, like im scared of others dying and me, i cry when i think about it, and i know it will come, but still im am so scared i fear it.

Yes, it scares me, I hate the thought of not being with the people close to me anymore, or how they'd cope once I had died. It's just an awful feeling.

But most of all I fear someone close to me dieing, if my mum, dad, brothers or close friends ever died I really don't know what I'd do.

I'm more scared of what happens after death. I've always wondered if our spirits stay on earth or the theory of Heaven is true and we go there. I was reading up on death/heaven on Wikipedia and people who have had near death experiences and claim to have seen a light say that 'it's the most joyous and peaceful feeling they've ever felt'.

I am always pondering death, and it just scares me to think that its just nothing. Like, before you were born, just nothing.

i do believe in some form of life after death!! our organs may shut down but our souls remain!

Sometimes it does. sometimes it doesnt.

I mean i like the quiet which is ok.

but at the same time sometimes i sit down and think god when i die im never gonna be able to enjoy stuff. Im very random sometimes. its like the other day i was sitting there eating a sandwhich and i thought. when i die i wont be able to enjoy sandwhiches anymore. how depressing.

but not it doesnt scare me. Death only scares me when it happens to the people i love.

Life scares me more. I think death is beautiful.

A family member died years back and I wasn't sad. I was young and pretended to be upset. I didn't see what the fuss was about.

I also lost someone I cared about, someone close. That was strange, but they wern't happy in life at all, so I'm glad they found peace, however I do miss them.

I have ambitions I want to achieve; the likes of college and travelling. So maybe I'll be disappointed. I'm not sure.

To be quite honest, in a way. It scares me to think about it really hard. Once a month or so I will be thinking about it and it will strike me that One day I am going to die, it will be me in that coffin and me being cremated and my family collecting the ashes and everything that I've seen at a funeral and experienced with loved ones dieing, that will be me one day. It's quite weird. But I've had experiences with ghosts and been to readings a few times in which this woman was talking about this man and all of his features and she could name him and everything and then his widow who was there, said that was her husband and then the woman who was doing the service talked about him and to him and then told his wife all of this stuff he had been meaning to say to her but never got the chance, and she did that about 15 times all to different people, to the name and everything. It was really sureal? She was spot on ever time

I think with death, most people are just scared of not knowing what is going to happen afterwards. No-body knows 100%. That's what scares me the most really. But I do believe in an after life and there is a better world, so we will just have to wait and see really

I don't know if I'm scared of dying.

What I do know is, that I don't want to die.

I'm more scared of losing someone that I love.

Like my grandparents both of them are around 65. I know its going to happen someday, but just thinking on it, makes me sick to my stomach.

I don't want to lose my mom. I love her more than anything in this world. I don't know if I could live another day on earth if that happens.

Sometimes I wonder what's the point of living.

You are just on earth to live a few years.

Most likely you aren't going to make an impact on the world.

A hundred years from now, no one is going to know who you were.

Sometimes I don't know.

I think it may depend on how old you are as folk seem to get more scared as they get older.

What I find interesting is Christians seem to be more scared of death then anyone else and they believe they will go to heaven (then again maybe they dont:devil:).

Personally Im not scared at all. Dont feel like rushing it but I am rather curious as to what happens, if anything, next.

Its the likely only certainty of life that we will die, so its something we can do nothing about.I would hope I have all my affairs in order so that any loved ones left when it happens have no burden from me.
I would be lying if I said I would hope it wasn't painful but as I watched my Grandmother die, and it was just like she was going to sleep,I would hope my end can be as peaceful, that's all.

I had to be born and I will have to die one day( not for a great many years I hope)and I couldn't do a thing about either event happening.

Yeah, I avoid thinking about it tbh.

Scares me about losing somebody I love, really daunting about never being able to see them or hear them speak again \:

Then what happens when we die.. is that it? Do we lose our memory and not know who our family and friends were? Horrible thought.

MTVN
14-11-2010, 12:01 AM
Dunno, often I think it doesnt really scare me and that I would be ok with dying when it happens.

Although when I really start thinking about it I get a kind of sick feeling when I think of how your life is just gonna end and then there's nothing. That's it. You no longer exist and cease to function, that does terrify me.

It might just be because I havent really achieved or done anything in my life so far. I'm generally quite sceptical over the importance of someones life, I dont really think that there is a meaning or a purpose to it, and really we are all very insignificant. I just hope to enjoy my life as far as possible so that when I do die I'll be satisfied with my life.

Oddly enough, the thought of going to Heaven is quite an unnerving one for me as well. The idea that you become immortal, that you never die, just living forever, it's quite a weird thought.

No and Yes.

Yes because I'm afraid of how I will die.
And because I don't know when, I mean I could be leaving the house and waving goodbye to my family to go to school or something, not knowing I'll never see them again.
Or I could have a row, go to sleep and never wake up.

But No because,

I don't believe in God.
I think it's all complete bullsh*t and people like the pope and Dot Branning who dedicate their lives to some bloke that doesn't exist, need to ******ing learn to have fun.

There's no way some magical man lives in the clouds and built the earth, k?

I also don't believe all the bollocks this Jesus was meant to of done.

However,
I know for a FACT there's an after live.

I just do.
I've had experiences in the past where I have seen dead family and friends.
One time where I spoke to my dead sister and grand father.

And my grand mother also speaks to the dead, but so does my mum's friend who is abit better at it.

So I know there's nothing to be afraid of, I've always bricked it, incase I died and went back to how I was years ago before I was born.

Remember? No.
Exactly, You Don't.

No one does, because we were nothing.

I'd hate to just die and loose everything and just **** everything gone.

But to die and know you go to see everyone else that's died, and to know you can still watch over your loved ones and that, it's just incredible.

Although one fear still remains,

Although I've had experiences with the dead... No spirit has ever said that Jesus or God or Heaven exists.

When my gran and my mum's friend speak to them, they don't mention it.
They never let me ask them to talk to them or do what's called 'A Reading'.

Because my mother says I'm not old enough yet.

But when I turn 16,

On my list of things to do,
Along with have legal sex, Audition for X Factor for the lulz and legal Drinking...

I plan to go for a proper reading and ask my Little Sister or Granddad if Heaven or God is real.

If the answer is NO,
I'll be like k kl.

And carry on.

If the answer is 'Yes and babe you're in real trouble for dissing him'

Then I'm ******ed.

Patrick

And imagine if you got buried, then you were still alive and you were just underground wanting to get out and you couldn't. UGH.

Very little chance of that nowadays,

After you die most people undergo a post mortem examination, where they take samples of brain tissue by opening the skull and removing the brain to slice chunks out of it.

They also remove samples from liver, heart muscle, lungs kidneys etc. They open you right up and check all the organs for damage diseases etc. taking samples where necessary. Then loosely stitch you back up to keep everything they put back inside.

If you werent dead before the PM you will be afterwards.

I'd prefer that as well, I dont like the idea of an afterlife which will just never end and you'll just live forever, that's quite weird really :/

The best thing would be for you to decide when to die. So like you just spend as long a time in the world as you want and then when you feel like you're ready you can die. It could never happen, but that's what I would like

Burning to death would be such extreme pain though. I had a debate with a friend of mine once over whether it would be better to die from burning to death or from freezing to death. Was that in columbia where post mortems arent really routine like in the UK?

Wasnt actually as they were going to bury her, it was as the undertaker was about to drain her blood and fill her up with embalming fluid, if they hadnt of discovered she was still alive, she wouldnt have survived the draining or embalming either way.

Besides in warmer countries they tend to get rid of the body quicker than in the UK saves diseases and smells building up. Keeps the flies away as well.

There was a tv programme ages ago about being buried alive. It looked at coffins that had scratch mark on the lids (showing that people had been buried alive) and clawed at the coffin. Horrible

Also, I think it is China (could be wrong) where they bury people and attach string to their hands which leads up through a tube to the gravestone and the other end is a attached to a bell (so if the person is buried alive) somebody will hear the bell.

I read something about that too, wasn't it where the saying came from 'doing the graveyard shift' in that after people were buried someone was on guard at the burial ground in case a bell rang so they could get the person out.

I am not afraid of death, although I am afraid of a long, painful death. Death is just another part of life. I believe that something of you goes on to something else. We are just energy, and Einstein said you cannot destroy energy. Whatever the human "soul" is, I firmly believe it goes on after your body dies, like getting out of a worn-out or damaged car. I also believe that if you are a bad person, there comes a time when, somehow, you have to pay for that.

Dying itself no but the manner in which I will die yes. I terrified of dying whilst drowning. More than anything, slowly feeling yourself go whilst trying to hold on to your breaths ee, that has to be worst then getting a bullet and dying at once. Or getting eaten by an animal. some of them take their time. first arm, then leg....ah all you can do is bleed cry and stare death in the face. I'm not afraid of death, but I do worry about HOW I will die. I don't do pain very well, so perhaps something instantaneous rather than long drawn out, so I have no time to worry or be afraid, or worse still, to be a burden on my family.

We all die, and it is because life is finite that it has any meaning at all. Imagine being immortal - it would be a living hell.

I tend to agree with this ideal, except that it's ok to prepare for those who will be left in your wake, after your wake. I like to live in the present and toward the future a bit, and tend to not get overly weepy about the past. *But,* I don't want my best and loved ones to be ****ed for a long time because I wasn't there to help them(emotionally, or sometimes financially.)

The thought of losing other people is infinitely more terrifying to me.. I have had a few friends recently who have lost their parents and I just don't want to imagine it... I think freezing to death wouldn't be so bad. Your whole system just slows down, you go numb. It wouldn't be a horrible way to go.

obviously a drug overdose would be the best way though. atleast you get to be high and well feeling good.
