Why is there so much focus on vocals?Id say instrument playing, music producing and song writing are equally as important if not more important and shouldnt all the awards only be open to material thats been released in the past year? The way you have it means i could vote for Pete Burns as best male vocalist or Cher as best female, which would be ridiculous seeing as neither artist has released music in a long time.TBH it seems like you've designed the categories purposely so that Leona can win them all?:joker:

Because none of what you mentioned matters a damn to contemporary chart music. Coming from the thread creator or most of the voters standpoints, what instruments do the Saturdays play? Do they write their music? Producing does not matter either, just same generic bog-standard pop production.

Well actually Una play guitar sometimes on the live version of "Issues" and i believe Moile plays too.:tongue:.
Maybe instrument playing doesnt matter but i'd say music producing is becoming more important now with producers putting their name on song titles.A few years ago the average person would have no idea who produced the song thats #1 on the charts but now more people do.

That has nothing to do with advancement in music production, though, that has to do with ego, plain and simple. I am sure Timbaland is a whizz in the studio, but he is essentialy a brand name now. Tag his line along and you have an instant hit. Absoloutely nothing to do with music produciton getting more important. Music production was always important. Thats like saying the sky is only really a factor in air travel since about 2004.

Another big reason producers are putting their names on tracks is because ... well ... their doing most of the work these days. Would a performing musical band have put their producers name in a track twenty years ago? Or even today? No, because they come in, they write their songs, and they play their instruments. The producer then essentialy just helps them with their work and oversees their produciton.

But with genres like pop and rap, where many of the artists, and lets be honest, just need to go into a glass room and splurt out a few words, obviously the producer plays a much larger role in the overall composition and beat generation. Music like that can be attributed to an entire team of producers and engineers, with the actual artist just being the 'face' of it to sell.

Lewis.

this is just a tackier, less well planned knock off of Shaun's awards.
