To be fair, she led him on for weeks just as she did with Sree and then suddenly "I dont fancy you", why not just say "I see you as a friend" or something before they get the wrong idea, which she knew they did.

There must be something seriously wrong when a guy still thinks he's got a chance after hearing " i like you as a friend". So I think she has brought up the ex again to make it clear her heart is elsewhere and not available.
