A Big Brother 4 style evacuation was nearly needed at the Big Brother house today, BBC News reports.

At lunchtime production staff found a suspect package and raised the alarm.

A bomb disposal team from the army were called but once the package was x-rayed it was found to be harmless.

The housemates were not made aware of the alert

Bomb Disposal Team called to BB House!

It has today emerged that a bomb disposal team was called to Elstree Studios, the location of the Big Brother house, at around midday today after a suspicious package was discovered.

Hertfordshire Police rushed to the studios, after BB staff raised the alarm. An Army source said that one of the housemates had been receiving particularly threatening mail - and BB bosses originally thought that this may be connected to death threats that had been sent by post.

Staff were evacuated, but when the all-clear was given - were allowed to return to their positions.

A spokesperson for the Bomb Disposal Unit commented: "They have been very concerned about the post they have been receiving for one of the people."

Hertfordshire Police also said: "The package was X-rayed but it was found not to be suspicious."

In 2003, during Series 4 a similar incident took place which led to the postponement of an eviction and the temporary evacuation of housemates from the BB house. That incident also turned out to be a false alarm.

I have heard rumours that it is Kemal who is the target. Although I'm not fond of Kemal, to send hate mail and suspect packages to anybody is a terrible thing to do.
