Take That aside, because they have talent, in fairness, something like Britney Spears aint real music. Sure, you can hear it, but she has little to no input in the recording, writing or production process. Her role is to go out their and sell the music an entire team of businessmen and faceless producers have crafted and sell it based on her image alone.

Say what you want, but thats not real music. And sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, but just take a look at some of the members around here. You know they are going to grow out of it someday.

Most artists? You are only looking at a *tiny* demographic of the entire music landscape. I cant imagine relying only on charts and mainstream sources to hear new music. How can you get anywhere with just that? How do you discover anything new? That alone simply does not cut it for me. I see your point, well made, but the music you speak of is only a very narrow, very specific brand to target to a very large, very broad market. The industry does not 'work' in a specific way. It's far, far too large for that.

But speaking soley for charting pop music, yes, it is becoming more and more manufactured. And yes, IMO, if you dont write your music, if you dont play your music live, and if you have very little creative input in your music you ARE nominating yourself to be considered less talented and are obviously more than willing to become part of the 'product' that so much of music now is.

Plenty of backcountry 'virgins' from Dontsteponthatchicken, USA could have done the exact same job Britney could have. She just got their first. An artist, while admittedly sounding completely pretentious, is someone who has an idea in their head, goes out their and makes it a reality in the form of music. No matter how bad the music, you cant take that away from an artist, and it instantly makes them unique because it was their idea, in their head, and they wrote, recorded, and played it out to the masses.

I actually agree. But I definitely think Britney has more input than she is credited for, same for some mainstream artists these days, but because mainstream music is often stereotyped and many artists are overnight sensations and gone a month later, I think some artists are really not given enough credit for their work.
