*thinks of how to word this* Does an artist's personality ever put you off liking their music? Or can you seperate the music?

Like for example I don't like Robbie as a person so therefore I don't listen to his music. Same with Lady GaGa at the moment.

So do you prefer an all rounded nice artist with good music? Or is the music all you care about when you like their music?

Hope this makes sense!

depends really.
Like Lady Gaga's music, hate her. It's made me like her music less

I'm thinking Take That,it could work either way. A lot of Thatters I think love them because they're nice, genuine down-to-earth guys who all obviuosly get along. Now we adore the music as well but I doubt Take That would have such mad fans if they're weren't nice people, because that's half the reason we adore them so much.

Example:

I love Amy Winehouse's music, but think she is personally screwed up partly by her own doing. That would not stop me from buying her music though. I buy for my love of the music, not my love of the artist personally. That's why I do not consider myself as a "fan" of any artist.

Thatters LOL. I think a persons personality can put you off their music yes, but if the music is exceptional, it will almost always win. Although often considering music is a direct artistic expression of someones personality, if you dont like their personality you wont like their music. Think of how many artists you hate and I bet in most cases you also hate the general 'look' or 'feel' of whoever is behind it all.

See it would stop me. I don't like listening to her music because I don't like her, even though her music is good.

It's true about the fan thing though,I don't think you can be considered a proper fan if you only like the music.

Totally. I LOVE Britney. I think she's one of the nicest, down to earth celebrities out there. I don't agree with everything she does, but I still love her as much to follow her and buy her CD's.

An example is when she went crazy. I didn't agree with most of the stuff she did, but I saw she was going through something very bad and I still reguarly listened to her music, bought her albums/singles and stuck by her as a fan. I can't tell you how proud of her I am for getting through it and how proud I am of all the fans and myself that stuck by her and never deserted her once during those months of craziness.

only sometimes. For example I do quite like GaGa's music but I think she's an absolutely tit and most likely not a very nice person. It has made me like her music A LOT less but not to the point where I wouldn't listen to it.

But on the flip side I recently saw the Black Eyed Peas on Alan Carr and thought they came across as really nice people and it made me like them lots more.

Sorry but I have to consider that one nuts. Their are many different sort of fans out their. Liking the music is the basic and only requirement.

Ok I take back the fan thing. It definitely definitely counts for Take That though. I think it varies really.

*is rambling rubbish*

I really don't like Lily Allen as a person but I still listen to some of her songs.

I think the word you are looking for is 'passion'. You can be a fan of many bands, but their might be one band you have a distinct 'passion' for. Where you can feel the music, imagine conversing with it's members, and will pretty much dive straight in and be down right obsessive about everything from logo designs to track names. The type of bands you see more than once on the same tour. The type of band you would willingly get a tattoo of.

I don't consider myself a "fan" of any particular artist in the sense that

A) If I like a track of theirs I will buy it.
B) If I don't like a track I won't.

I would not buy everything by an artist just for the sake of it. And if I like several tracks by an artist then I will get the album generally.

Whilst I am fan of Norwegian Black Metal, I will not listen to the solo project known as Buruzm, due to the artist concerned serivng a 21 year jail sentence for the murder of Øystein Aarseth. Better known by his pseudonym of Euronymous, he was the founder of the black metal project Mayhem, and had a Record label and music store specialising in the sale of the genres albums.

Generally speaking the artist concerned would have to do something of a very serious nature for myself to consider turning against the idea of listening to their creative output.

Yeah I suppose, like when they do interviews and stuff on music channels, if the artists nice and I've like one of their singles, I'm much more likely to get their album or whatever.
The same the other way around, Lady GaGa annoys my happiness, and I like her music, but I'm reluctant to listen to it or admit I like it.

I like Demi Lovato's music but she annoys me so much as a person. :|
