No, this is nothing to do with people being struck down by narcolepsy in bizarre situations – this is the latest web craze.

The Lying Down Game is sweeping the nation via Facebook groups and has already produced thousands of impressive still lives.

Participants are told there are two aims: it should be as public as poss*ible and as many people as possible should be involved.

But a cavalier disregard for personal safety seems to give you extra kudos – as the man lying in front of a jet eng*ine will testify.

No location is out of bounds, with people stretching out on roof-tops, postboxes, statues, train luggage racks and roads.

To qualify, players must simply lie face down, holding their palms flat against their sides and their toes touching the ground – but some shots fall down even on those simple requirements.

Doormen Scott Wood and Wayne Pyle set up the Newcastle Facebook group after a lads' holiday in Magaluf.

'I thought lying on the floor would be a funnier way to pose for my hol*iday snaps,' said Mr Wood, 34.

'There's so much misery around these days, with the recession and everything. This is an excuse to have a joke and do something silly,' he added.

Danielle Mitchell, 23, is another Newcastle-based convert to the lazy-looking craze.

'You get some strange looks from people but it's all a bit of fun,' she said. 'I think everyone should have a go – it's very liberating.'
