Tom is fitter and better looking. Marcus will no longer be "alpha male". What I hate is that he is trying to influence Noirin's opinion by speaking badly of him. He's come to the conclusion that he has a gameplan within less than a day of knowing him, and he's happy enough to share this information with Noirin.
