View Full Version : Marcus/Tom Weightlifting

After watching BB/BBLive a couple of times, I've noticed there seems to be a difference in how Marcus and Tom train.

Tom seems to have better form and favours compound exercises like press-ups and also uses a bit of cardio through skipping. He is well defined and is probably 5'8, 15 stone with about 10% body fat. He could lose a stone or two and still look in good shape.

Marcus seems to only have one excercise: the one-arm dumbell curl. This doesn't do much for overall strength and is pretty much the routine of someone who just wants big arms, but nothing else. My guess is Marcus is about 5'6, 14 stone and has about 25-30% bodyfat.

IMO, Marcus has convinced himself he is truly buff, yet when a genuinely muscular guy comes in, he feels threatened. If he was serious about training he would do more rounded exercises, like push-ups, chin-ups, squats and and bent over rows. They add more overall mass than curls could ever do.

Opinions?

You have it all wrong Marcus knows what he is doing

Pretty much. Tom has used stuff (whether sterroids or shakes/tablets) and has a controlled diet but Marcus doesn't.

The "you look like Wolverine" doesn't help either, he thinks he looks like Hugh Jackman, not the character, because he's got lamb chops.

Marcus only does his arms because he wants to look good in his little wolverine vest. Besides Marcus beat up 100 men so whatever his doing seems to be working.

Looking at them both I think its perfectly clear who's doing things the right way!

Tom makes Marcus look like an ugly, fat slob.

Who cares really, Tom looks over developed. and marcus is simply giving his right arm the exercise it would be getting in the real world without the cameras.

Im sure they take drug tests before you go on the show, just like they do the phychological thing to make sure you can cope. It happened to my cousin who auditioned for BB5 and got very far in the process but was dropped before the final 20-30, not sure if they do it anymore, but i think they do.

They wouldnt put someone who has taken any sort of drugs onto the show because that would be promoting drugs if they get found out.

Is it fact he has taken steroids, or are you jealous types just speculating?

look at him, closely. he does not have any of the visual signs of steroid use. no sunken eyes, no staring bulging eyeballs, no enlarged adams apple. no "bitch tits", no enlarged elbow joint. when he speaks he speaks at a normal pace, not agitated or excited. think back to jan paul sigmarson and the young, think he was 29, guy who died from a heart attack when working on "the worlds strongest man" programme. if tom was on any juice he would be phenomenally bigger. go look at pictures on body building sites and you will see what i mean. it may not necessarily be jealousy though, just curiosity. i suspect it is done on a diet of tuna, chicken and rice, oh and peppers.

They can wear off, Stuart from last year admitted to taking them

Well again using the example of Stuart and he does show signs of usage- he's aged a lot and his hair line has receded much more than it should have. I'm not too bothered personally, as you say I am pretty curious about how he's managed to do it

Ummm. I feel this is a pretty pointless thread and you have looked WAY to far into this.

I think your right about Tom yeh, to be honest.
Uh i would say hid body fat could be slightly under 10 maybe 8 ish from the look of his vt..
His diet must be great and his training to he definately knows his stuff.

Marcus is your typical poser at the gym, doesn't really know what they are doing other than the obvious.
The type that would tell you, your doing somthing wrong and should follow his form even if it is bad.
Continually doing that same exercise will make it pointless, especially if he does it every day over works and wont help in size strength or definition.
I though at first marcus would be like a strength trainer, like squats bench and deadlift and thats about all he does, but he does none of it im sure.

Marcus definately feels really threatened, marcus was kinda of the alpha male, no one really messed with him, but Tom, even kenneth are bigger than him so are siavash and charlie lol..

Though i would keep curls in my exercise regime in there i wouldnt do it religously like he does.

Marcus has no idea.

Typical go down the gym willy nilly, but thinks he knows it all.
Tom is obviously very dedicated to it.

Curls dont really do anything after a while anyway because your arms become resistant to them but loads of people don't realise it. Then you have to go up weights and go up reps but eventually they'll just become too heavy and too time consuming.

As for the steroid side, i think he has done some courses.. in the past..

Definately not in the last 6 weeks, but either way people know nothing about steroids and how they work generally, they show that when they comment.

BUT..

You need to understand that it doesn't work like instant muscle, you still have to have strict training, strict diet and massive dedication to weightlifting, if you stop any then you will not get much affect from the steroids.

Yeh, i know, all bicep training is generally curls just done slightly different different heights and that.

If he was to do it once a week and was able to go heavier it would work.

But i dont even understand him because he doesn't do it right, if what he is doing is concentration curls..

It wont be doing virtually anything now lol.

i suspect we will see a gradual increase in both incidence and intensity of training with both high and low rep sets, and maybe negative reps introduced. although the budget may not allow peak performance to be maintained or achieved by these athletes. having gone into the house in better condition i would expect marcus's appearance, condition and performance to deteriorate before tom's.

As I said he is just exercising his right arm, coz its not doing its normal "workout!" with all those cameras around

Marcus doesn't really have an athletic body there not a lot deteriorate there.

But Tom will definately struggle to keep his,

Although he can do some pretty good basic exercises it wont be enough to keep up his muscle mass.

Though If hes only there like 3 weeks it shouldn't be to different.

Yeah, but Marcus beat up 100 karate experts in ninja school. From the way he described the incident,he was in a ninja trance and was able to deflect each oponents attack with ease, using their weight against them, aloowing him to dominate each fighter. Maybe Marcus doesn't want to get too 'bulky' as to maintain his stealth like movements. Marcus needs to be liquid like water.

30stone
20-07-2009, 07:54 PM
He wouldn't gain really any bulk if he was to do some general training and some cardio.

He would trim some fat though.

Novo
20-07-2009, 07:56 PM
Marcus was born with natural strength he will never lose it
he is like a bulldozer and he will cut threw Tom

mellors
20-07-2009, 07:58 PM
you have a point. the calories required to maintain the physique are unlikely to be achieved in the house. i would expect to see a gradual decline in body mass, an increases in definition, more ripped or striated as they used to say. couple this with junk food it will be interesting to see how his body and mind copes?

maybe he was able to arrange to supplement his diet in the house?

if he is in there long enough he may deteriorate sufficiently to begin to look like marcus! :bawling:

30stone
20-07-2009, 08:02 PM
lol i doubt it would go that far he should be able to keep his carbs up and maintain his bodyweight.

But i think he will go up in body fat slightly and just lose a bit of muscle mass.

Im sure he would be itching to do some proper weightlifting after like a week or so..

I heard that when the 'boogie man' goes to sleep at night, he checks under the bed for Marcus!
That's the kind of fear a trained ninja such as Marcus can instil. His body is an impenetrable force field...

Tom has just slightly overdone the 'Roids'.

They can do all the weights they want, neither will ever be as hard as Dunc !!!!!!!!!

If anything, housemates gain weight in the house, not lose it. Even if they lose a shopping task, they still get treats/parties by BB. Jason from 2004 maintained his bulk, as did Richard from 2006. Lee from 2002 was pretty big too if I remember.
