Any tips? I know nothing about wines, what's what? What's sweet/dry etc?

Depends on what kind of bar it is (traditional, club, cocktail, fine dining).
But this page should give you a lot of info about wines in particular. Spirits and beers are pretty easy to get your head around, but wine is defo a great area to be knowledgeable in. Can never beat a nice glass of a good quality Pinot Noir or Syrah.
