It is quite similar in the whole dystopia theme yeah. Its so awesome. You should read them!

Its a book series written by Suzanne Collins. Its set in the post-apocaliptic North America. Instead of the USA, a new country called Panem has replaced it. Panem is split into 12 Distritcs. There was once a 13th, but it was obliterated by the oppressive ruler of Panem called the Capitol (which is a massive city in the middle of the Rockies) because it started an uprising with the other Districts agains the Capitol.

After destroying District 13 and to teach the Districts a lesson, the Capitol created 'the Hunger Games', a cruel event where each District is forced to give over one boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to fight to the death. The games are broadcasted on state television and it's mandatory viewing for every citizen of Panem.

I hope that makes sense? You should read the books. They really are incredible.
