Smoking, I have never properly tried.. but I have tried alcohol and I love it

Jack_ 05-04-2012 12:31 AM

1) I cracked my head open when I was about three after leaning back on a plastic garden chair and falling onto concrete. I had to have it glued. Thankfully, I don't remember any of it.

2) I've never smoked or tried any drugs. I intend to one day (though just to see what it's like, not as something to regularly)

3) On the subject of trying things, I'd say I'd like to try most things...I'm a firm believer in don't knock things until you've tried them, even if, quite hypocritically, I don't always follow this myself. But I intend to...that's what I mean.

4) I'm quite open minded about my sexuality and find it difficult to define, in fact I don't really bother anymore (I just say bi to make it easier). I find women more sexually attractive on the whole, but it's often guys that I have attractions to in TV shows and the like. Not too keen on the idea of sex with them though...but I intend to try it one day. Like I said before, I'm not ruling anything out...up for trying most things. Oh, and I've never actually discussed my sexuality with anyone other than people online. In fact, I don't really intend to, because I don't feel like it's something I need to 'come out' about.

5) I'd say I'm quite open minded when it comes to most things, and I often class myself as being one of the least judgemental people I know. If you're nice to me, then I'll be nice to you, I couldn't care less whether you're bi, black, Muslim, transsexual or whatever. It's the person that counts and it irritates me when people discriminate or don't realise this.

6) I question most things about the world, so much so that very few people get what I'm on about...in fact only a few people do.

7) I was baptised as a Roman Catholic but I'm anti-religious and funnily enough, completely oppose such practices. I have no problem with religious people, but I find the idea of this superior 'God' like character very difficult to comprehend, and when I think it through in my head...I just find it very hard to understand how people can believe in such a thing. I believe religion is largely the cause of all evil.

8) I'd say I'm quite liberal on the whole (this ties into my open-mindedness and questioning of the world). I believe people should be entitled to do as they wish, so long as what they're doing doesn't hurt or endanger anyone else, and that goes for most things (except economically...cause I'm anti-capitalist). A random hypothetical situation I suppose would be that if someone wants to walk down the street naked, I'd say they should be entitled to. There's exceptions to the rule, but I think this way on the whole.

9) I love Sociology (again, ties in with questioning the world) and am intrigued by the works of Karl Marx. Not saying I'm a Marxist...but it interests me.

10) I have quite a sick sense of humour, which often makes people question how I can claim I'm not prejudiced or anything, but as I always say to people, I think humour and comedy has no bounds and there are big differences between remarks made with malicious intent and remarks made that are quite clearly meant to be a joke. I laugh at jokes about Maddie McCann, but that doesn't mean I applaud the abduction of kids. I think the world would be a duller place if we didn't poke fun at the darker sides of life.

I wrote too much :(

Niall 05-04-2012 12:38 AM

Jack just gave me an idea for my eleventh fact :amazed:

11) Out of my family, I seem to have the most extreme views politically. Though I've only taken an interest into politics in the last few years, I've kinda come to the conclusion that Capitalism will forever be something that will never help advance the people, but only hold back and oppress them. Ever since I came to that belief, I've tried to define exactly what I believe in politically speaking and the only thing that is closest to my beliefs is market socialism. The hilarious thing about it though, is that my Nan used to look after me, but she's the complete opposite of me politically speaking. She is extremely conservative and economically right wing, so I often argue with her about politics. We're both really stubborn so neither of use give up LOL.

..I don't think I agree with this Charlie..I know many people (not necessarily friends..but just through my job)..and I think most people..or a lot anyway...think of themselves as socially inept in one way or another..most people are not as confident as the appear..I think most Tibbs people are the same as everyone else..as 'normal' as everyone else..because there is no 'normal' at all
..the ony difference is..we have Tibbs to..talk and share stuff and to laugh at ourselves sometimes...and maybe we're a little less afraid to admit we're not perfect...actually I see that as a strength
..Tibbs people are some of the most 'normal' people I know and probably no more or less confident than a lot of peple really...they don't 'pretend' to be anything..or hide behind masks..tbh..on the whole..I think most on here..have a good balanced take on life

I'm loving this thread - there are so many interesting facts about people that I'd never have guessed!

okay - here are mine for what they are worth.

1. I was born 3 months premature, weighed just over 2 lbs and spent the first 6mths in an incubator. I had to have my tear ducts bored as they hadn’t formed and my ‘pinky’ toe nails never formed either .

2. I opened up my first bank account with £1000 that I made from doing secretarial work at home, as well as making macrame (mortified) and selling them when I was 16.

3. Up till I was about 35, I loved running and often took part in half marathons - was superfit and yes, I did have the female version of 6pack

4. For many years I have been involved in raising funds for the World Food Programme

5. I took Latin at school as I wanted to become a barrister – that’s when I was smart and before late teen rage set in

6. I ran away from boarding school twice – one to piss my parents off, once to be with a boyfriend

7. I’ve held down 3 jobs at the same time to get money together to buy my first house on my own.

8. I had a large lottery win in 2000 - which I say was now cursed money.

9. I had a burst stomach ulcer at 30 and did come close to death.

10. 18 is my unlucky number. No matter what, where, when – bad news always figures when the number 18 is involved.

Number 18 - I know folk talk about 666 etc.... but I swear to god - it's a curse for me.

Guy I knew (well...was sort of romantically involved with at the time) - done for massive cocaine involvment.:o Was arrested on 18th, was initially sent to Barlinnie - put in cell B18, was sentence on the 18th - and was given 18 years. on the cat's life!

The dosh I won...all the individual digits added up to 18. No bull.

Z 06-04-2012 04:05 PM

Well here goes..

1) Obvious one to start off with - I'm currently living in Germany on a year abroad, teaching English and trying to improve my German. I'm coping fine but I can't wait for it to be over.

2) I've been an extra in a film (football film), I've been in the paper (for a school club I was in and for being assaulted which I'll mention later), I've been on a TV program (a gardening one!) and I've been on a TV advert (for a golf competition, an American film crew stopped me and my brother and asked us to do a little skit for them) - sadly I have yet to reach the heights of fame I truly deserve... lols.

3) I'm not sure what I want to do with my life, like many others on here, but I feel like I was born to entertain people and think I should get into comedy in some way. I'm constantly being told I should write a book and that I'm really funny, and I think I have a way with words. On the other hand, I would like to be a singer with a band, just to see if I'd be any good at it. I can hold a tune and I enjoy singing and often write lyrics but I've never done anything with it.

4) My greatest achievement in life so far is probably being the recipient of a trophy on my final day at school, for being the 6th year's sixth year, which everyone in my year voted for. It was a wonderful feeling and I have great memories from school.

5) I am a virgin and happily talk about it because I think it's a really common thing, just that there's this perception that if you haven't had sex by a certain age you must be a total weirdo - you're not, I'm not, and it's fine to be that way. I personally don't think I'm ever going to feel inclined to lose my virginity, I'd rather love and be loved than go out looking for sex, because I'm not that way inclined and I don't think I ever will be.

6) I get really worked up and nervous about social occasions a lot of the time, to the extent where I don't go to things that I said I would and ignore my phone when people try to find out where I am - yet if I go, I'm perfectly capable of being a normal human being. I'm not sure why it is that I get so worked up about it, and only some of the time, but it can be really debilitating and can ruin my day.

7) I have bad eyesight and wear contact lenses - I hate wearing glasses and think they make me look like an entirely different person. In relation to vision - I have a couple of floating dots in my vision that just kinda appeared one day and have never gone away. Most of the time I don't notice they're there but when I'm looking at a laptop screen for example, they show up on the white screen and can get on my nerves.

8) I once had a cancer scare but it turned out to be a cyst. I made a doctor's appointment by myself and they called my house phone while I was away on a school trip to confirm my appointment, which I'm still very angry about, because it worried my parents and I ended up having to tell them about something that turned out to be nothing.

9) I was assaulted the night of my 19th birthday just walking home by myself along an A-road. I wasn't drunk and I didn't provoke it, I just got punched twice and fell onto the road - a car was sitting at the lights but the driver didn't help me and never came forward, but I identified the guy who did it and he pled guilty eventually but I never got any kind of compensation or information about what happened in the end. That said, I still have a huge amount of respect and gratitude to the police officers who dealt with my case and have nothing but positive things to say about them, even though the experience deeply scarred me and gave me some serious anxiety problems about walking anywhere by myself or going outside at night time.

10) I met Shaun and MarkWaldorf from here and it was a brilliant experience, they are both lovely people and every bit as fun as they are/were (in Mark's case) on here and although you should always be wary about meeting people online, I would do it all over again, no question.

1 - I have Native American, Portuguese, Spanish and German descent.

2 - I've been to 16 different countries, but I've never been to Asia, Oceania or Africa.

3 - I'm fluent in Spanish and can speak English and French. I'm currently studying Advanced French and have been studying it for 5 years.

4 - I studied at St. Paul's, which is an English school that was founded in the 20's due to the massive influx of English immigrants in São Paulo.

5 - My family has 80+ hectare farm and it's the most beautiful and peaceful place I know.

6 - I'm the only Atheist in a very Catholic and religious family.

7 - I often feel extremely guilty for having such a good life in a country where so many people live in slums.

8 - Whenever I go out, I have to come back home before 5am because I feel awful when I see people at the bus stops going to work whilst I'm going home after an expensive and unnecessary night out. That's probably called Catholic Guilt.

9 - I hate water and I hate getting wet and if there was a way to get clean without the need to get wet it would be lovely.

10 - I hate driving.

LOL.... Believe me in all honesty: I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

Some of the things folk are coming away with: it really shows you the real mixture of people on here, their experiences, a real mixed bag of tricks. Some things are so sad to read of and learn as well. :(

Some things are amazing and are things that some of us only ever dream about !

1) I have a cat and dog and love them dearly.

2) I value my education but have been quite lazy with my GCSEs (no revision)

3) I've never done drugs but do drink alcohol.

4) I've a wide variety of music tastes.

5) I'm Agnostic until its proven that Science or Religion is correct.

6) I live in a horrid rough estate and wish to go to Uni abroad which is why I have to stick in at college.

7) The last time I had a sunny holiday was 5 years ago. :bawling:

8) I've never had a job.

9) This summer holidays has been a total waste as I've been on here most of the time. D:

10) I enjoy going to the countryside for days out:)

I am boring but I will try do this anyway.

1. The last time I was in hospital was just a few months ago because I wasn't able to sleep, I was awake for about 50 hours in total, ever since then I only have caffeine about once a month, I drink lots of decaffeinated tea every day though.

2. When I was born I had fluid in my lungs and died in my fathers arms, I somehow came back to life a few minutes later and they brought in a priest to the hospital and I received three of the seven sacraments when I was just born.

3. Referencing the previous point, although I was christened as a Roman Catholic, I have a very individual view on religion, I do not practice religion but I still believe that it helps in the understanding of some morals.

4. I do not judge people at all, I am very open minded and I believe that people should be allowed to make their own decision without having to conform to what society says is normal, for example if someone wanted to wear a chicken suit for the rest of their life then they should be allowed to without having less advantages than anyone else.

5. I live alone with my mother and our two cats and dog. I have two older brothers and a sister and also have a younger half brother who I rarely have contact with.

6. My boyfriend lives in Portugal.

7. I get random outbreaks of eczema on random parts of my body, I currently have it on two fingers of my right hand and one finger of my left hand.

8. I am very uncomfortable and shy in social situations most of the time, especially in the most natural situations, such as saying hello to a cashier when paying for shopping.

9. I will be 20 next month and have never tried smoking, drugs or alcohol and don't plan to. I also do not curse/swear.

10. My father died when I was three, I don't remember him, when I was in primary school I used to have nightmares that the other kids in my class were laughing at me because I didn't have a father.

Lee. 27-08-2012 04:33 PM

Cheeky bumpage.

NEW TEN COS I'M SO INTERESTIGN.

1. I have a mild obsession with mannequins. I draw them whenever I'm bored and it's made me quite good at drawing figures. Part of me would like a tattoo of one on my arm.

2. I avoid investing in modern technology as much as possible. For this reason my TV doesn't work, I still play N64 regularly and the only reason I have a BlackBerry is because my sister forced me... I hate it, I want to go back to my Nokia.

3. I can rarely hold a friendship for over a year. I'm not sure why, but I know it's a problem with me that I can't put my finger on.

4. I write a lot of screenplays. Mostly Sci-fi or drama based. In fact as lame as it sounds I'm halfway through my own version of Skins, but instead of there just being 5426539 love triangles I'm relating the characters to fears I and anxieties had about growing up. It's incredibly therapeutic, but slightly sad when the characters overcome a struggle that you've experienced and you're still sat there in the same position.

5. My father doesn't like being called Dad, so I call him by his first name. He's young at heart, I still see him out clubbing (which I hate), goes to music festivals with mates younger than him and stays up on the internet later than I do. Part of me thinks I'm gonna be the same.

6. I've spent more time thinking about my 21st birthday party than my choices for my PGCE.

7. My girlfriend recently pointed out to me that I don't just bend over backwards for my friends but I morph myself into some kindof hydra or something that caters to everybody's needs. It's made me evaluate my friendships a lot more and it kind of sucks.

8. I often think I'd rather be an animal than a human. Preferably domesticated. Probably a Dog. Things are so much less complex for them and they're perpetually happy.

9. Although I'm more of an artsy kid most my friends are into science/computers. The few times I've had to explain things to them is exhausting, so God knows what it's like when it's the other way around.

10. I really don't care for money. It sounds really stupid and possibly preachy but if someone told me I just won £10,000 I wouldn't really be fazed. It's not like I don't know the value of money, it just doesn't excite me for some reason.

6. I have no belly button

10. I crashed my driving instructors car and wrote it off on my first driving lesson.
