Chance The Rapper- Acid Pop
I didn't really dig this album tbh. Not a fan of rap music in general. I listened to it yesterday and I give it another go today and I can't get into it. I wouldn't listen to it again. 1/10 |
y'all are way too harsh
|
I tried to like it but I couldn't.
|
But a 1?!
Last rap album I'm suggesting tbh. |
Yes a 1 :idc:
It was a very generous |
i'm thinking of just asking people not to review albums if they hate the genre "in general" it's not really fair.

can bounty be next please

I'll make it known before I cast my score that I am a Boards of Canada fan and I've had this album for almost a month hoping it'd be a grower. Unfortunately for me it's not. I dunno. I've read the critical acclaim about it and I can't say I agree. There's nothing really special or individual about this really.
There are so many unmemorable tracks for me, particularly in the middle I find myself losing interest with every listen and a lot of it blends together. With this sort of ambient music of gradual process I feel like the changes are too subtle to be particularly interesting. That all being said I think the first 6 tracks are pretty good, Jacquard Causeway being a particular favourite, but there's none which I enjoyed near as much as Gyroscope, Music is Math or 1969 from Geogaddi [if you like these guys and wanna look at earlier stuff, I'd recommend this album]. On the whole I don't really enjoy it, but I'm not going to rate it too low as there's a great level of subtle craftsmanship there. My rating [which I know I'll be frowned upon for but idc] will be 5.5 |
I really liked this album for the first half and then it just got a little repetitive and boring... for what it is, it's executed well, and is quite beautiful in a way, but I don't think I could handle it too often unless it was on in the background.
I'll give it a 6/10. current scores: Boards of Canada Scott - 3 LemonJam - 5.5 Shaun - 6 Niall - 4.5 = 19/40 = 48%. |
also who wants to pick this week's?
possible (this week's releases) picks: - Ciara - Ciara - Thundercat - Apocalypse - Editors - The Weight of Your Love - Jay-Z - Magna Carta Holy Grail - AraabMuzik - The Remixes, Vol 1 or of course, if none of those interest you, something from earlier in the year (preferable a major release) |
in fact no i'm going to pick it because yolo :hmph:
this week's is Kanye West - Yeezus, because we need this resparked :idc: |
9/10
I think it's an almost flawless album, It's just really interesting and it's managed to hold my attention which is rare for me as I typically don't like a lot of rap. My favourite songs are I Am A God, Hold My Liquor, Black Skinhead and Blood On The Leaves. |

Yeezus - 7
Album is entertaining, but it's weak by Kanye's standards. It feels disjointed (though maybe intentionally), and I'm finding myself not playing it a whole lot. Still a good album, though. Blood On The Leaves is one of the best tracks this year. |
Just gonna listen to that other album in a sec. I'll post that along with my Yeezus review when I'm done! :D
|
Yeah, I'll give Boards of Canada another listen too.

Just finished.
Tomorrow's Harvest, Boards of Canada - 4.5/10. It didn't make an impression on me really and I didn't really have much of a reaction to any of the tracks at all. It was just completely, and inoffensively bland. That said though, I did like Reach For The Dead a fair bit. Yeezus, Kanye West - 8.5/10. I loved it. It's so vicious and raw from start to finish, which just made me focus right away. I adore all the tracks (apart from Bound 2) and it really is great. It's like 808s And Heartbreak but packed with pure rage, and it really works a lot better than that sort of dejected resentment that 808s was full of. However, it still doesn't top MBDTF for me, mostly because my love for Runaway, Monster, All Of The Lights and Devil In A New Dress are all far greater than anything on Yeezus (although that might change in the future with subsequent listens). |
Yeezus - 8.5
Not his best by a long shot, and a few of the tracks failed to grab me, but the ones that did are excellent. It's an interesting new direction for him and the lyrics and production are pretty astounding. Favourite tracks: Blood on the Leaves, Black Skinhead, Hold My Liquor, I Am a God & New Slaves. |
