Lowest January rating ever unsurprisingly. They’ve shot themselves in the foot with the average with Friday’s split showing and then last night.

You didn't expect it to get that with a 5* look and a 10 30pm showing, did you? That was impossible.

5* is a channel that barely reaches 300k and 10 30pm on C5 is lucky to even reach half a million, so those ratings are expected.

I expect 1.50m tonight.

Officials tomorrow too.

Of course not, but when there’s 4 chances to watch the show last night and it still manages to get the lowest jan rating ever, it’s not good.

Rob! 14-01-2018 12:58 PM

A channel that barely reaches 300k...you have to wonder what the point of it is?

we shouldn't compare the split shows to ANY January because this is the first and only January which is doing this. you can't compare a 9pm C5 slot to a 9pm 5* and 10 30pm C5 slot.

If it was on at 9pm on C5 it would have been 1.2m+

it doesn't matter that people had 4 chances to watch it. 5* is watched by an average of 1% of the population as opposed to the average 6% for C5. So the reach for 5* is much less.

It's not comparable.

doesn't matter if there was 4 chances or 10 chances.

It's like expecting Corrie to still get 7m combined if you air 1 episode on ITV4 and then show a second look at 10 30 pm
when really it would get 1m on bbc4 and 4m at 10 30pm.

It's all about the 'reach'. Combined there is less peoplt watching 5* at 9pm and C5 at 10 30pm than there is watching on C5 at 9pm.

It is no way comparable. The split shows should only be compared to the split shows (BB18 and CBB20) and not surprisingly it was the highest for a 5*/c5 split show they have done.

looking on BARB. 5* highest rating of the final week of 2017 was 305k with +. So last night will definitely be bigger than that.

lewis111 15-01-2018 10:08 AM

Last Night CBB - 1.4m (6.3%)

supertv247 15-01-2018 10:20 AM

Least watched winter Sunday episode of all time

RichardG 15-01-2018 12:07 PM

winter cbb

1.4

didn't bb secrets and lies evictions get higher than that, like 1.7 or something, and we thought that was bad :shame:

Official ratings are in. (overnights in brackets + how much each ep has gained)

Tue - 2.40 (2.07) +330k
Wed - 1.87 (1.40) +470k
Thu - 2.05 (1.53) +520k
Frid - 2.07 (1.59) +480k
Frid - 1.74 (1.24) +500k
Sat - 2.00 (1.40) +600k
Sun - 2.04 (1.51) +530k

Average - 2.02 million

This average is down 300k on last January, down 700k on the January before that (CBB17) and down 1.1 million on the January before that, (CBB15) - it's even down 20k on summer (CBB20) which was the least watched series of all time

T* 15-01-2018 12:40 PM

...yikes

Oaker 15-01-2018 12:40 PM

This series is going to have the same average as BB14 :skull:

MESS not it actually being lower than CBB20 too

Mrmattybeck 15-01-2018 12:56 PM

Most of the week over 2m is not something to sniff at though, plus next week will be even higher.

CBB20 fell quickly though. The last week of this series has been higher than the first week.

*mazedsalv** 15-01-2018 01:45 PM

For example Thursday and Friday first show should consolidate to almost 2.3m

Oaker 15-01-2018 01:50 PM

The second week will do better for sure but like the past few episodes have had awful overnights so it'll probably just fall back down again?

Also is it just me or are those catchup numbers really bad? :worry: I'm pretty sure CBB20 had higher timeshifts

The average catch up for week one of CBB20 was 600k and for week one of CBB21 its 490k so it is a little less.. but CBB20 had less episodes in the first week, didn't have a split Friday etc and was actually the most viewed series on catch up at that point.. so it could even out. Week 2 also fell to like 400k average so hopefully this series keeps it up or even starts getting more on catch up.

I feel like this series will be pretty consistent with the ratings so expecting a series average of 2m now, possibly 2.1 if something big happens

RileyH 15-01-2018 03:11 PM

:skull: @ the officials

supertv247 15-01-2018 03:31 PM

2.1 million for a January series :skull: that suggestion would’ve been laughed at 3 years ago when it was at 3.3 million, winter CBB was the crown jewel in the whole of Channel 5... now it’s no better than anything else. Before today, only 2 episodes of January CBB had rated below 2 million before, now another 2 have just in that last week :worry:

Gstar 15-01-2018 07:45 PM

CBB15s ratings were crazy

I mentioned on Twitter that I don’t think this averaging is correct. They should be time weighted rather than episode weighted otherwise you get into averaging averages and data quality drops.

Take a 90 minute episode. BARB would give each minute an equal weighting in the episode so the first 60 minutes would be 60/90 of the average and the last 30 minutes would contribute 30/90 to the average. The same should hold if an episode is split into two parts but in the above each episode is given an equal weighting.

If you effectively make each 30 minute episode worth half (so half the viewers but also the episodes drops by 0.5) you create an approach consistent with BARB and you also boost the average slightly. Makes for fairer comparisons between series which did not split episodes.

If only we could add YouTube views into the mix, though 25k additional people watching BB wouldn't help that much...
