Many assholes would have voted for Trump, but many good Americans who wanted reasonable changes (that were promised to them) voted for Trump too. Now those good, law abiding, decent people would have reaslised they made a mistake, do you a) mock them, tell them they're awful etc or b) say yeah ok well it was an HONEST mistake, lets unite and get these changes we all want?

Anybody that voted for Trump is either a racist or a clown that is easily led. I'm not interested in sparing the feelings of people who voted for a man whose inaction has killed over a hundred thousand people, who has misused a law to justify sticking children in cages etc.

I'm not gonna coddle a moron like that, they need to know what they've done and learn from their mistakes and if they get pissy and be all like 'The left are mean! I'm gonna show 'em by voting Trump!' then they prove themselves to be childish to the end.

You do realise that Biden has massive leads over trump at the moment, so what exactly isn't working? Voting for Trump was the dying embers of white America coming to terms with the fact the country is changing, both demographically and politically.

I don't think you understand the polarity. Trumps base has remained fairly consistent throughout his time in office, so it's not actually a republican come to jesus moment.

The only thing that's really moved the needle recently are the protests, and people on the right realising that pandemics don't really care about who lives in 1600 Pennsylvania avenue, and you're far better off with competence than a wannabe tough guy who doesn't read information, and who's only calculation is himself and how things affect him.

I do, but so did Hilary and look what happened there, really doesn't mean much.

8 years of Obama was what then? Some of the same Americans who voted for Obama would have voted for Trump, doesn't mean they're 'clinging to white america'

Hilary was never a good candidate. The same way Biden wouldn't be a good candidate in a year that a crazy pandemic wasn't taking place, and America was reckoning with it's own history.

Here's the thing, America is a majority centre left country. If all of the dems turn out they win every election, but they don't, so republicans win by suppressing votes, which they do really well, and the dems put up bad candidates.

Dems had no motivation to turn up in 16, no one thought he would win, and no one really wanted Hilary. It was the perfect storm. Ironically, republican voter suppression this year will have the opposite effect as black people won't accept being marginalised this time around.

Good points made there, i agree. But it does go back to 'trump still got enough votes to even make the challenge possible'. And after 4 years of BS, a lot of people will realise they made a mistake voting for him, and be more inclined to vote against him this time round. Baring the many idiots who did vote for Trump, can you not accept that quite a few decent Americans who did vote for Trump are not bad people? Are not racist, and do genuinely want what's best for the Country?

bots 24-06-2020 01:59 PM

The Dems are on course to win the house and the senate, and if they get a nice majority in the senate, the first thing they will do if Trump wins the election is impeach him again and throw him out on his ass. Trump knows he is finished

Because American politics is so polarised, in most election cycles either party could put up the worst candidate imaginable and still get 40% of the vote. One of the many fall backs of a 2 party system.

I can easily accept that not every trump voter is either racist or a bad person, but I have a harder time believing that anyone voting for him a 2nd time, in the face of this mountain of evidence, isn't. Trump will still end up with around 35-40% of the vote.

It's pretty impossible they win back the senate and keep the house if Trump wins, rendering the rest of your post as wish fulfillment.

Ammi 24-06-2020 02:10 PM

...I don’t think Colbert conducted himself terribly...I think it was obvious how incredulous he found it that John Bolton wouldn’t have thought Trump would be ‘that bad’ with the wealth of experience he has...as he said.. "But you're an international negotiator, how could you be naive, you've dealt with the worst people in world."...this isn’t the guy on the street, type thing...and for to infer...well, we thought we could make a President out of him by gum...is just staggering really....I felt Colbert held himself very well tbh...I mean, really...

let's see what happens in November, the dems are going to do very well. Covid is re-surging big time in the republican areas that rushed out of lockdown

They have a chance to win it all, but they won't win congress without winning the presidency, because of the way the republicans gerrymander their districts.

As an example, they won over 1 million more senate votes during the 2014 midterms, and lost 2 seats.
