Harveys, the UK’s biggest specialist furniture retailer, has signed a 2 year deal with ITV to sponsor Britain’s longest running soap Coronation Street. The deal was officially signed on Monday 2nd July.

The fully integrated sponsorship package includes all episodes of Coronation Street on ITV1 and ITV2 as well as interactive, mobile, the brand new broadband section on itv.com and off-air licensing and merchandising. So far this year Coronation Street has attracted an average audience of 10.6m and a 46% share of viewing, peaking with 13.1 million viewers*.

Ian Topping, Chief Executive of Harveys parent company, Steinhoff UK, comments: “This is the most prestigious sponsorship deal within British television and we feel it is a great strategic step for us in our quest to become the UK’s favourite furniture retailer. The sponsorship deal is a perfect brand fit for Harveys.”

Michael Grade, Executive Chairman of ITV said: “Coronation Street remains the largest and most important programme brand on British Television and we're delighted to welcome Harveys as our new commercial partner.”

The new Harvey’s sponsorship will be screened from October 2007.

Scarlett. 03-09-2007 11:38 PM

Coronation Street cast and crew were celebrating again last night after scooping an amazing four awards at the TV Choice and TV Quick Awards.

Corrie won the coveted Best Soap gong, while Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, won Best Actress and Kym Ryder, who plays Michelle Connor, won Best Newcomer.

The gripping plot involving Tracy Barlow murdering Charlie Stubbs was named the year's Best Soap Storyline.

This is Corrie's second Best Soap victory after it took home the same trophy at this year's British Soap Awards in the spring.

Last night's awards were decided by TV Quick and TV Choice magazine readers.

It has been a good year for Corrie, and it won't be the same without the Cadbury's sponsorship. :bawl:

Scarlett. 04-09-2007 11:05 AM

I wonder what Harveys sponsorship will look like (I bet the street get some new couches)

cepb 04-09-2007 11:12 AM

No they're not allowed to advertise the sponsorship brand on the actual show in this country. That's what would happen in America though.

In America they'd all use the Harvey's Brand and mention it all the time to advertise during the show.

But that's never been allowed to happen in this country because of the BBC's strict rules.

But still I prefer Cadbury's sponsorship, they've always done it. I liked the chocolate street advert at the start in 1999.

Scarlett. 04-09-2007 11:15 AM

but the current Cadburys adverts are annoying

cepb 04-09-2007 11:18 AM

The current ones are annoying but I'm sure they would have changed them in 2008 if Cabury's continued advertising with them.

Some of them have been great in the past.

Scarlett. 04-09-2007 11:20 AM

true
the makers of Wallace and Gromit helped with the chocolate street one

cepb 04-09-2007 11:27 AM

That was a good advert.

How do you know all this stuff about Coronation Street anyway?

Jackie 04-09-2007 11:31 AM

Because hes a fan

Scarlett. 04-09-2007 08:14 PM

Plus I have access to the ITV Press Site

Danny B. Returning afterall?
A report in the Daily Star Sunday claiming that Coronation Street bosses have cancelled Bradley Walsh's return to the show is (surprisingly) inaccurate.

From what I hear, execs have definitely bandied around storylines involving the comic's character, Danny Baldwin, but there just haven't been any firm opportunities for Bradley to take a break from his other ongoing work with ITV.

A Street source told me: "We've seen storylines up until January and Bradley's character Danny won't be appearing in any scripts."

They added: "But if a storyline is suggested involving him, we'll always check to see if he's available. If he's not, we'll can the idea until a new opportunity presents itself."

Never say never, I say.

If you think about it, the chances are that he'll make his Weatherfield comeback at around the same time as the departure of his on-screen son, Jamie (Rupert Hill)...

A bit of a big hint if you ask me
