Just got ANOTHER email from my Uni about Swine Flu, probably triggered by the student in Newcastle.

It basically outlines that they have emergency plans in place for if anyone from the North-West is confirmed as having it.

Wow, its really growing now. I wouldn't say I'm too worried about it as most people are just suffering mild symptoms and recovering outside of Mexico, but I saw on the news last night that it should die down during Summer and hit again, worse during the winter and start killing people, which, I don't really understand as Mexico isn't a winter climate. Meh, it just confuses me haha. Oohh and btw my mum has basically sold Tesco out of anti bacterial hand wash and the mini pocket size hand sanitiser things LOL,
my mam is the same, she went into work armed with stuff and began spraying it on the door handles and phone, the nutter

Surely they should be detained to make sure others are not affected?

They only need to have been in contact with someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone that's been in Mexico etc.

They don't need to have directly been in Mexico themselves.

I am taking no chances. I will take preventive action where I can. Nothing wrong with being precautionary. I am sure they are not aware of all the facts yet to do with this outbreak. Who knows how contagious it is? Who knows if people are carriers of it? Who knows who may have it?

Hugo 30-04-2009 06:35 PM

I have to take a bus every morning thats been all around Nottinghamshire

Lauren 30-04-2009 06:38 PM

I think Baz has the right idea here - being precautionary does not equal panicking.

Ross 30-04-2009 06:38 PM

I just punch people who breathe on me.

But it will not Kill you.

So many have Hay Fever
you will find sneezes every place.

Maybe you need a Underground Bunker.

You cannot stop coming into contact with people but trying to avoid situations, like being packed in a busy tube carriage with hundreds of others. and your face in someone elses, as much as possible cannot do any harm.

Mark 30-04-2009 07:30 PM

Normal influenza kills tens of thousands of people in USA alone, and hundreds of thousands of people around the world every year.

When swine flu gets to even a fraction of that, I'll begin to think twice about it. As for now I'm going to get on with my life and not get paranoid or take precautions about something which probably isn't going to be any bigger than the SARS problem.

Media: Serious business.
