Putin has invaded Ukraine to take two bits of territory he already had.

Yeah right! That makes sense.

But while you're focused on this we can slowly and quietly make Covid disappear like it never even happened.

UK has started Phase One
of New Sanctions.

Johnson PM
is to speak in Parliament at 12:30PM

Crimson Dynamo 22-02-2022 09:20 AM

Russia is having a nightmare with covid. NO new hospitals have been built since 2008, unless you know someone or bribe someone you cant get to a hospital.

This Ukraine malarky stops Russian people realising how fckd up their glorious country is.

this isnt just about ukraine, this is about retaking all of what was the soviet union. There will be a fairly large section of the population in favour of this because they have been indoctrinated since birth that their poor standards of living are all the fault of the west

I think a lot of people in the west don't understand how serious this situation is

I've been reading Watchmen recently, and one of the subsubplots is how people are worried about WWIII because of Russia's attacks on the 'Stans.

Would any of those old enough to remember the 80s say those goings-on did make it feel like war was imminent?Did it feel the same then as now?

arista 22-02-2022 09:50 AM

Yes Alf
Putin can soon turn the Gas off,
once he invades.

the soviet union was on it's knees in the 80's so not a realistic threat. The late 60's and 70's were very dangerous times

I'm not old enough to remember however the Soviet Union (pre-80's) was a legitimate global power in a way that modern Russia is currently not and I imagine the looming whisper of nuclear war was quite worrying throughout the Cold War era.

However.

You then have to factor in that the internet did not exist in any meaningful form until the late 90's, and mass adoption of everyday internet use/social media until later still, so people weren't as "immersed in the news" as we are now. I think that must make a huge difference. News used to be scary when you read about it and then you could put it to the back of your mind. These days it just pops up to whack you in the face again every 2 minutes. Which is actually really unhealthy.

Thats not right
we get 5% from Russia.

[Russia only provides about 5% of the UK's gas supplies,
so it's less reliant on Russian imports than other European countries.]

Shell and BP
are in Russia.

[BP has been operating in Russia for 30 years.]

[Does Shell operate in Russia?
Of all the energy companies working in Russia today,
Shell actually has the most diversified portfolio.]

The PM has not touched them
