Didn't Saville fund schools and hospitals? I don't think that is the argument to make.

I have no idea what goes through the minds of someone throwing glass bottles into crowds of innocent people / police . I’d hope that the police have people observing and filming the ones who are launching missiles .. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Is that supposed to be funny ? They’re throwing bottles , bricks and fireworks onto the police even when there are ‘peaceful’ protesters next to and even engaged in conversations with the police .. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
George Floyd killed by the police
There’s a lot of pictures of mixed youngsters who just turn up for the fun of it, and nothing to do with the protests or understand the true cause.
There’s are lots of genuine people who want to fight for the cause. There’s are groups who just there to blame the police and cause public order offences. I hope this doesn’t lead too riots on the streets again? I’m also confused as to how the throwing of bottles ,bricks and fireworks onto the police ranks is going to HELP future relationships between the public and the police ?? I remember a similar argument when the issue of the statue to Cecil Rhodes being removed in South Africa, because his estate was a benefactor for scholarships to certain schools it was seen as a reason to ignore his racism.

It does not however detract from the important issue those peacefully and earnestly protesting are there to address. The worry of course is as always that will be overshadowed especially now, people have been kettle in their homes for weeks, right now the UK is like a champagne bottle one good shake and there's going to be an almighty pop! |

They all creep the hell out of me no matter who they are. Do we really need a bronze Cilla Black creeping in an alleyway in Liverpool? :worry: |

A building can have it's name changed, it's benefactors or creators disavowed but a statue of someone in a public place can only exist as a tribute to that person's life. Buildings serve a purpose, statues do not. Trying to equate tearing down a statue to tearing down schools or hospitals is utter nonsense. Destroying a statue of a long dead slaver doesn't negatively affect anyone, it's a symbolic destruction of a memorial to a slaver. Destroying a school or a hospital affects many people and it's ultimately a waste. You in your misguided defense of a slaver's statue are basically saying that these people have to go around destroying charities, schools, hospitals and more because they destroyed a statue and they're hypocrites if they don't. It's false equivalence at it's most blatant and yet more gatekeeping on your part. 'You can't do this if you're not willing to do this utterly bat**** thing I'm suggesting because I say so.' |
