Well done, the Good Ukraine Troops.

the russians seem to be completely incompetent. I think this is where putin is at his most dangerous. He is likely to use some form of devasting weapon. I wish sometimes that the west would stop saying the russians have stalled etc, because it's inviting worse action from the russians

To make matters worse the chain of command and communication lines seems to be extremely shaky... meaning there are a lot of Russian forced "going rogue", mainly small-scale stuff from troops, but I'd hazard a guess some larger strikes as well... which makes it difficult to know which actions have been handed down as orders and which are actions taken further down the chain of command. That both increases the risk to civilian targets, and introduces deniability when they are deliberately hit. "This civilian target was destroyed, that's a war crime" - "That strike wasn't ordered so this was hit by accident and is just collateral damage."

I agree with this part. Lots of premature celebrating and crowing from people who are trying to be supportive (all across the mainstream press, too) but the unintended effect will just be Putin seeking to "prove" that he's still in control of the situation.

Accurate and plainly-stated information is what's needed in situations like this. The reporting on this entire thing has been ludicrous in my opinion as I think I've made clear. The politics are extremely complicated and it's undeniable that the action taken by Russia has been brutal and barbaric, but the reporting on the politics behind all of it has veered off into utter fiction. These are issues that have been brewing for decades, we know what they are, and we know that the situation on the Russian border has been "poking the bear" for many years... the number of daft alternative explanations for this war are baffling.

MTVN 17-03-2022 09:44 AM

The Pentagon's conservative assessment is 7,000 Russian troops dead and between 14,000-21,000 wounded. If you were a part of that Russian build up of troops on the border at the start of the year there's a 1 in 5 chance you're now dead or wounded which is pretty horrifying odds

bots 17-03-2022 09:49 AM

the moral of the russian troops will get lower and lower. Many didn't want to be there in the first place and now they are sitting ducks being picked off. Being the aggressor, all their dead will just build up around them. Most of the troops havent moved in the last week or so .... that is going to be really grim

Russian state-backed news channel RT has had its licence to broadcast in the UK revoked "with immediate effect", media regulator Ofcom has said.

"We do not consider RT's licensee, ANO TV Novosti, fit and proper to hold a UK broadcast licence," it explained.

Ofcom is carrying out 29 investigations "into the due impartiality of RT's news and current affairs coverage of Russia's invasion of Ukraine".

The channel had already disappeared from all broadcast platforms in the UK.

It was removed earlier this month as a result of a ban imposed by the European Union.

Although the UK is no longer in the EU, the bloc applied sanctions to satellite companies in Luxembourg and France, which provided the RT feed to Sky, Freesat and Freeview in the UK.
