Also, the Sheanu stuff was firing on all cylinders when they brought Mel and Lisa into it. But it's an absolute shambles at the minute.

Lisa is abused and screamed at for shouting that Sharon's baby isn't Phil's. So she agrees to shut up but is then shouted at and abused until she states the obvious again. So, either he believes she's lying or she isn't? I really didn't understand the need for him to be the way he was with her. It makes zero sense.

The rate at which Phil is piecing stuff together is laughable, practically shoots Jack dead over a ****ing necklace. Now, we have Louise after 18 months suddenly now looking worried after one comment about what Sharon got up to last summer. When Phil said "When I was away in Spain", Louise should have asked "which time?".

The pacing feels like they had to slow it right down after Mel died in order to make it last until Christmas, but then forgot about it and suddenly had to ramp it up quickly to climax over Christmas. The pacing is all over the place.

Jigs 24-12-2019 10:24 AM

I think it's moved at a great pace tbh. I didn't want it to drag on for so long that we all forgot about it, but I also didn't want it to move at Hollyoaks pace either. I think it's reasonable that we had a bit of downtime after Mel's death because it signified Sharon being lulled into that false sense of security she has when she thought she'd finally tied up all the loose ends and gotten away with it scot-free. Now that it's basically been confirmed Sharon's baby isn't Phil's, it makes sense to me that it's moving at a quicker pace because we all know Phil's a hothead and he will continue to be on a destructive path until the truth is revealed.

I hated what they did with Phil's character post-alcoholism until basically now. His "tough guy" status had become nothing more than an unspoken rule despite the fact we barely got to see any of it. Going around pinning people up against walls and threatening them seems truer to his character so I'm intrigued to see how he manages to piece together the rest of the puzzle this week.

HOWEVER

What I don't get is why Jack decided not to take action against Phil yet when he sees Halfway punching Leo in the street he suddenly goes into that awful entitled cop mode and *has* to make an arrest...

I can't be the only one who doesn't give a hoot about this storyline. Just bored of Sharon and Phil in general to be honest.

It's only for a couple of episodes

Vanessa 26-12-2019 09:15 AM

Omg that was excellent. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I don't think Keanu is dead, but we will find out in the new year.

Marsh. 27-12-2019 08:47 PM

I know Sharon hasn't exactly been portrayed as a great mother but Denny shouting "slapper!" at her in the street, that little sh*t needs a smack.

Jigs 27-12-2019 08:48 PM

I can't stand the Chantelle/Gray storyline. It's gone on for too long now and both are terrible actors.

Wizard. 27-12-2019 08:50 PM

Grey can get me pregnant but he's clingy af I think it's just the bad acting.

Oh, yeah, it's not that I expected it to move full pelt the entire time. I just mean they should've developed Phil discovering the truth over a longer period, especially Louise's frame of mind as her having an overnight change in personality that sees her immediately piecing things together when she already suspected them having an affair during the "PT" stuff 18 months ago is a stretch of believability too far. Having said that, the Louise/Keanu side of the plot has always been weak. They're barely even three-dimensional characters so their motives and reactions change every episode.

See, simple lapses in logic to make a storyline work is one major problem with Oates' EastEnders imo. The same with Martin and Ben's entire story since Stacey left is just a series of ridiculous plot contrivances that defy basic logic.

We're supposed to believe that Martin can't simply get rid of a van himself, so turns to either committing cold blooded murder (and filming it) or elaborately staging a faked death (and filming it) just so Ben will do it for him? Just on the off chance someone was seriously hurt in a hit and run, WHEN HE WASN'T EVEN DRIVING IT!

I can deal with plot holes in a soap, but not on this scale.

I don't think it's gone on for too long. It was a slow burn before getting to the main story, but yeah it's not exactly great when it's focussed on.

Kate Oates has said a stranger will return to become the slaters guardian angel

So it rules out Stacey as she is family what about Alfie? For his redemption and he did tease a 2020 comeback last year

I would guess Daniel, he's not a stranger as such but if helps them out anonymously then it would be a stranger

Unless he goes away again

Denver 29-12-2019 11:34 PM

Or Janine is a short possibility

Amy Jade 31-12-2019 07:02 PM

Kellie Bright is a brilliant actress. Most believable drunk performance in a soap for ages!
