Her airplay is not great, it's picked up in the last week thanks to the VMAs but nowhere near where it needs to be to get number one. It will be in the top 5.

While many young singers are obsessed with staying slim there is one star that makes no apology for her fuller figure.

And in a revealing interview singing sensation Adele says she is happy just the way she is and her voluptuous shape has never been an issue.

Speaking to Vogue the 23-year-old who also posed for a series of stunning portraits said: ‘I enjoy being me; I always have done.’

‘I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life.’

And it seems the people she surrounds herself with ensure she maintains a positive self-image.

She explained: ‘It’s just never been an issue – at least, I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.'

Adele, who was forced to cancel the first two dates of her U.K. tour yesterday because of a severe cold and chest infection, has also revealed why you won’t see her as the face of a brand anytime soon, no matter how high the offer is.

She told the magazine: ‘I don’t want to see me plastered everywhere, before adding ‘If they offered me £10million, I’d be like ******* off. Besides if I was going to be the face of anything it should be the face of full-fat coke.’

Adele’s star just keeps on rising her second album 21 has sold over 3.5million copies and broke the solo female artist record for staying at number one for eleven weeks.

But while she is currently in higher demand than ever the singer has been forced to cancel the first two dates of her U.K. tour because of ill health.

In a blog post to her website she explained: ‘im as useless as a slug right now, ive had a rotten cold,’ before adding: ‘id rather not do a show, then not do a good one for you. (sic)

Nice to see some stars not whoring themselves out to advertisers just to make even more money they don't need.

Adele has now cancelled her performance at the mercury prize awards due to her continued ill health.

Get well soon, Adele!

I think she needs a good few months off really.

Iceman 06-09-2011 05:30 PM

I was just thinking this yesterday that she'd have to cancel.

From Music Week

10 million sales

Adele’s 21 has underlined its status as one of the most successful albums this century after selling its 10-millionth copy this week.

The album, by far and away 2011’s top seller worldwide, has taken little more than seven months since release to break the 10 million mark and looks likely to reach 13 million sales by the end of the year.

At a time when even the biggest albums globally struggle to sell more than 5 million copies in a calendar year, the XL album’s performance has been remarkable. And the story does not end there with 21 on course to reach 3 million UK sales this week in record-breaking time.

“It’s just phenomenal,” said her manager Jonathan Dickins. “We knew we had a good record and privately we had some targets, but you can’t legislate for this.”

“We’ve taken the whole thing very much one step at a time, but no one could have anticipated this,” added XL Recordings managing director Ben Beardsworth, who noted the album was this week enjoying one of its best weeks in a number of territories, including the US where 21’s sales were expected to rise week-on-week by around 70% following Adele’s MTV VMAs performance of Someone Like You.

The scale and speed of 21’s success can be put into context when lined up alongside the biggest global sellers of recent years. Eminem’s Interscope album Recovery was recognised by the IFPI as 2010’s top worldwide album having sold 5.7 million copies by year’s end and Syco artist Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream led 2009’s listings after selling around 6.0 million copies (it achieved that despite having only been released in mid-November that year).

Not since Blue Note/EMI’s Norah Jones debut Come Away With Me, which was 2003’s top global seller, has there been a release to dwarf the kind of numbers 21 has been doing.

Adele’s rapid march to 10 million has been achieved because her album became a substantial hit in almost every major music territory.

It has been number one in 19 countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany and the US, where it is the year-to-date’s top album by some distance, it sold its three-millionth copy there last month, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It is also the first album by a British artist to reach this landmark in the States since Boyle’s debut two years ago.

Unless something extraordinary happens during the last four months of 2011, 21’s success will also mean the top-selling artist album globally will be by a British artist for the fourth time in five years following Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black (2007), Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends (2008) and Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream (2009).

Meanwhile, in the UK 21’s sales reached 2.98 million units last week, according to the Official Charts Company, and are set to hit 3 million by the end of the week.

Sales this week were strengthened by Adele’s appearance on Jonathan Ross’s new ITV1 chat show where she performed Turning Tables. However, she had to pull out of the first two dates of her UK tour last Sunday and Monday because of illness.

Given the album firmly remains a Top 10 fixture in the UK, US and other key markets, there are likely to be plenty more sales to come before the year is up.

“The joy of an album coming out in January is we’ve had the whole year so far of great sales and we’ve still got our first Christmas to come,” said Beardsworth.

“I imagine even for a record that has sold at this volume there are going to be some great sales at Christmas.”

Zippy 07-09-2011 02:22 PM

wow it was expected to hit 10mill by end of the year but it's got there so fast. We could even be looking at 15 million by the end of the year! :amazed: In America its going crazy with not only SLY outselling everything but also Set fire to the rain storming the itunes top 30 and racking up huge sales over recent months. It's her next smash there for sure and could send album sales into orbit. She has 3 huge hits at once there currently. On the global itunes chart all 3 of her songs are in the top 7!!

Let's have some classical music to celebrate :D

Iceman 07-09-2011 02:39 PM

Wow, thats some crazy achievement!

bbfan1991 07-09-2011 02:56 PM

Well done to Adele, deserved:).

Zippy 07-09-2011 03:24 PM

Adele made a massive 88% gain in US album sales in the wake of the VMA's. She sold a mighty 154,000. However, it still stays at no3 because of two huge new releases...Red hot chillis(224k) and Lil Wayne(964k).

Big week for album sales on Billboard.

Iceman 07-09-2011 03:38 PM

Se's had to cancel another 2 gigs :(

Vladimir 07-09-2011 09:51 PM

Congrats Adele!

Following an acclaimed performance of the song on the MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 28, Adele's stark ballad "Someone Like You" bounds to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, vaulting 19-1 with dual Digital and Airplay Gainer honors.

"Like" leaps 11-1 on Digital Songs with 275,000 downloads sold (up 191%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. On Radio Songs, the track blasts 42-19 with 46 million all-format audience impressions (up 59%), according to Nielsen BDS.

The honors continue to pour in for Adele, as "Like" is her second Hot 100 No. 1, after "Rolling in the Deep" spent seven weeks at the summit beginning in May.

"Deep," which won Adele three trophies at the VMAs, and "Like" appear on the singer/songwriter's sophomore album "21," which, with 3.3 million copies sold in the U.S. since its February release, ranks as 2011's top-selling set.

Similar to "Deep," "Like" is receiving multi-format radio support, lifting into the top 10 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart (12-10), while advancing 6-5 on Triple A; 18-16 on Adult Contemporary; and, 24-19 on Pop Songs.

I know my Adele facts, sunshine.

That article was posted today, you hardly knew what her airplay was like prior to that.

But congrats anyway Adele, I am surprised it's gone to number one so quickly, I thought it would take a few weeks.

well of course it had to be confirmed today. But all the strong indications were there and I even posted the most respected prediction chart around. Which was spot on as it happens.

robb 09-09-2011 11:47 AM

Fantastic news!!! She is up there with the global superstars!! So many strong female singers yet Adele has made her mark......just hope she gets over this illness soon.....

Iceman 09-09-2011 01:30 PM

21 is still number 1 on the Irish Charts a massive 33 weeks after release.
19 is number 4 on the Irish Charts knocking up its 70th week overall on them :D

Rolling In The Deep is at 50 on the Singles Chart. 33 Weeks later. :)
Set Fire To The Rain is ta 14 on the Singles Chart. 20 weeks on.
Someone like you rises back to 11 on the Singles Chart. :D

:worship:

Zippy 09-09-2011 04:06 PM

I think its looking like Adele will have the two top selling singles in the world this year. RITD is already top but SLY looks set to follow.

No question she is totally owning 2011. Its like the year of her entire life.

Adele is on course to sell over 13 million copies of her latest album 21 by Christmas.

The record is estimated to reach the impressive milestone by December after tipping the 10 million sales mark earlier this week, seven months after its release.

The singer's manager, Jonathan Dickins, told Music Week: "It's just phenomenal. We knew we had a good record and privately we had some targets, but you can't legislate for this.

"We've taken the whole thing very much one step at a time, but no-one could have anticipated this."

Adele's total dwarfs best sellers from recent years, including Eminem's Recovery in 2010, which sold 5.7 million copies, and Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream in 2009, which sold 6 million units.

The feat makes her the fourth British artist in five years to be awarded the top global selling album, after Boyle, Coldplay's Viva La Vida in 2008 and Amy Winehouse's Black to Black in 2007.

21 currently sits at number two in the UK after 33 weeks in the top five, and is expected to hit the three million sales mark following her appearance on ITV's The Jonathan Ross Show.

Adele's 'Someone Like You' topped the Billboard singles chart earlier this week following a well-received performance at the MTV VMAs.
Great sales

Iceman 09-09-2011 06:01 PM

It's incredible how this album has performed.

Zippy 09-09-2011 06:24 PM

Callum I already posted that article on last page.

Iceman 10-09-2011 01:32 PM

21 will have the same sales as 2009 & 2010's top sellers combined :o

Callum 10-09-2011 02:24 PM

She really is unstoppable this year. Her next album obviously won't be able to beat these sales but I wonder how well it will actually do.
