Also can I just say, the majority of forums wouldn't have discussions about these things.

If they wanted to bring in a new premium feature they would implement it regardless, and if members wanted it they would donate, if the didn't then they wouldn't. It's as simple as that.

Having premium donations wouldn't dismiss members from anything they currently have, it would just allow those who donate benefits for doing so.

If you want to implement a tiered system Tom feel free to run your own forum. Until then your going to have to accept that not everybody shares the same view as you and it might be beneficial for your side of the debate if you cut back on the mud slinging.

Why not just donations though?

Because like it or not, most people do things to get something in return. It's the way the world works.

Me. I Am Salman 03-05-2014 10:45 PM

TheStudentRoom is one of the largest forums in the UK.. it has it's own headquarters with paid staff and is meant to be a source for learning. If such an official and sensible forum like that sees no problem with having a subscription option (with the features I suggested in the OP like coloured usernames and a private section) I don't understand why it'd a problem on a big brother forum

The only problem would be that old people don't like change. Yes, I said it.

This was only the real negative part of the ideas section but it doesn't look like something like this would be included anyway so my views have changed a bit, Wouldn't be against having a donations section and some kind of rewards in return for members.. coloured names etc.

Samm 03-05-2014 10:52 PM

would there be another way to donate then Paypal

Good

I don't mind the other features so much but I think the whole thing is a bit silly. If people get that excited over a coloured name... Just have a donations page that allows people to contribute without pressure and with anonymity

Now you have got that off your chest i hope you feel you can contribute

I quite like the idea of premium features, yes. It would be a good way to help fund the site. There's a few things we could do - some other things also I can think of that haven't been suggested here.

It could happen at some stage. :)

This (plus the word VIP, think 'subscriber' (think Josy suggested it a few pages back) would be better).

Yeah, I think Subscriber or Contributor would be a better thing to call someone who donates.
