I think it's a European thing, the whole "smile and bow and nod politely whilst they tell you it wasn't as good as it could have been" thing is very 'pageant queen', which as far as I'm aware is exclusive to UK/USA.

The doughnut comment was so unnecessary, I would have felt like punching Simon if I was Andrea. He's making a mockery of his talent.
