Same here. The new idea's great an all, but after last night I don't want my banners in this competition.
Yeah, I like the new idea - I don't have a problem with that.
I just feel there's bad feeling amongst everyone now

andybigbro 26-02-2007 03:11 PM

I'm not 100% sure myself to be honest, Andy. But from what I got from it, people enter their banners (only a few) and then people vote for them in the first heat to see which ones should go through to the main public vote? :puzzled:

andybigbro 26-02-2007 03:24 PM

Oh ok lol

that just mean that the banner with the most votes will win any way

GlitterEyes 26-02-2007 03:30 PM

Here are a few of my thoughts...

To make it a fairer competition people should be split into beginners and none beginners because people who have got experience have a head start. Then beginners go against other beginners and the same with people who do graphics alot...so each competition would produce two winners....one from the beginners group and one from the other group.

People should only get to submit 1 or 2 banners...they can make as many as they want but then they have to decide themselves which 2 they want to put forward to enter. Rather than voting on the "best banner" people should consider the improvements of the designer, the use of colour, the use of techniques etc.

Red Moon 26-02-2007 03:52 PM

Here was my idea of the Rules

In the heats phase the banners could be posted in groups of say 9 or 10 with people then picking their top 3 in order over a period of a couple of days. 5 points could be given for every banner rated first, 3 for second and 1 for third and the points totalled up. This would give three banners from the original heat making it through to the next round. The final could also be scored in the same sort of way.

To stop lots of entries I would suggest limiting the number of banners that can be put through to the final vote. So for example people are only allowed two entries. This will reduce the number of banners going through to heats and will make sure people enter their best work.

The heats could take place in one topic over an number days it would save us having lots of topics all over the place on the same sort of subject.

What ever system is used everyone has to have a fair chance of winning and having their work judged in a fair way.

You could add the skill level idea if you like.

GlitterEyes 26-02-2007 04:12 PM

Sounds a good idea to me...whats everyone else think?

Bells 26-02-2007 04:18 PM

OK I think that'll work! Previously I didn't really enter banner competitions - this has been the second, and I was even contemplating taking my banners out of this one because I only really tend to make them just to use them on my posts etc.! But I reckon this is a pretty fair, light-hearted way to judge work and also improve. And I reckon limiting the entry number to about 3 is a good idea as well.

Who is intending to organise it and all that then, and will it go ahead?

Emilee 26-02-2007 04:21 PM

Sounds great! :cheer2:

GlitterEyes 26-02-2007 04:38 PM

Will the same rules apply to being monthly?...I don't know everyone elses thoughts but I feel monthly is dragging it out two much...so fortnightly would work better with a quicker change over of subjects/themes. Anyone agree/disagree?

Sophii3x 26-02-2007 04:40 PM

What was going on yesterday? Sam hasn't been on since.

Anyway.. I only want to enter 1-2 now:tongue:

Sam 26-02-2007 06:18 PM

Sorry im really busy tonight with homework and stuff, ill try to update this tomorow.

Sophii3x 26-02-2007 07:15 PM

Whoooo hey Sam. I thought you left:tongue:

Sam 27-02-2007 06:33 AM

No im still here Sophie, we got forced to do Eistedfod entries for EVERY single academic subject, so i had like 15 posters to make last night because i had kept putting it off lol

GlitterEyes 27-02-2007 11:42 AM

Everyone happy with the new idea then?:spin2:

Sam 27-02-2007 04:40 PM

Ok, ill start to group the heats tonight.

Aww that sucks.. good luck in the competition!

BTW is it ok for me to just enter two banners?

Sam 27-02-2007 04:43 PM

Ive got one one problem though, about the number people are to submit, im not sure which entires people want to submit as there final two or whatever. Im a bit confused. Any ideas?

Red Moon 27-02-2007 04:44 PM

So how many entries are people allowed?

And as an admin thing - can you keep all the heats in their own thread? Just go back and edit the title of the first post every time there is a new heat. You could even run the final in the same thread too. Thanks for your help on that. It saves have lots of threads on one subject.

What if we U2U you the ones we want to enter.. or just make another thread

Sam 27-02-2007 04:53 PM

Thats the only problem i have with this, the restriction on entries, its just going to be too much hard work to find out which entries people want submitted, ill do the heats but i dont think i can do the entry restriction.

GlitterEyes 27-02-2007 04:56 PM

We can edit our posts and just leave 2 banners up...but might take a day or so for people to see it.

Bells 27-02-2007 09:31 PM

I’m still unsure as to what exactly is happening.

These are the 4 banners I’ve made that are to do with music and I thought it'd be a good idea to put them all together in one post. All different, I've attemped to try out new things in each! I understand I have to pick just two or three out of these though – is that correct? :puzzled:

I don’t want to withdraw mine anymore, but please keep me updated as to what’s going to happen with them!

My 4 entries:

Yeah I think everyone just submits 2/3 out of all they have made. I personally think because people have made quite a few submit 3 for this competition and then at the next competition submitting just two when people will know not to make so many.
