Isn't American health insurance slightly cheaper than National Insurance, on average? If NI were slashed it might be worth it.

1) There are almost always costs above and beyond insurance. Insurance adjustments SHOULD stop a random average hospital stay for, let's say, some broken bones costing tens-of-thousands (which is what the bill will be) but usually you'll still be left with a bill of, say $600 at the end.

2) If you're unlucky enough to develop cancer or something you're ****ed. Unlike Universal Healthcare - insurance runs out. If you get a chronic illness in the US you are very, very likely to end up bankrupt unless you're literally a millionaire.

3) N.I. scales with income so people on low incomes don't pay huge sums. In the US if you can only afford very basic health insurance, you're only going to get very basic care. For the wealthy, a very high level of coverage might only cost the same as their current N.I. but for everyone else, no.

4) All of this is moot. They're not going to slash N.I. even if the NHS was completely dismantled because the NHS is tax funded. N.I. contributions are essentially "employment insurance" - they pay contributions-based out of work benefits and pensions. The pensions pot is already dry... they literally cannot cut NI at all.

5) They could in theory take the money saved out of income tax and slash those tax rates, but it's HIGHLY unlikely that they'll ever cut the 20% rate, so again a disproportionate gain for the wealthy in the 40%+ bracket.

Most brexiters are armchair warriors who will tut and share posts on facebook but ultimately won't do anything. There will be no riots but there may be a spike in Right Wing Terrorism and we ultimately shouldn't let terrorism win by cowering into doing what terrorists want.

Zero hour contracts are a cancer that only really work for younger people in education but are being applied across the board. It is unsustainable employment for most people.

I will never forgive anyone that voted for brexit or any party that supported it if the NHS goes down because we'll be stuck in a ****ty deal with the US. Go read about the medical costs in the US and be glad that we have the NHS. We should be protecting the NHS at all costs, not pretending that the US model is good just because doing so makes no deal Brexit more of a possibility.

I've never seen a group of people wish harm on themselves as much as brexiters often do.

Blame your favourite government for that.

We've been meeting to get a discount?

The only major country that won't have a trade deal with it's nearest neighbours, is getting a discount from the country that has hurt it's own economy to start trade wars?

They gave opposite opinions regarding the NHS. You're so close to being truthful with yourself, but you don't want to face up to what that actually means in reality.

Look The Nurse was Correct about the NHS

The Older Fella was right about Owen.

The nurse used facts, Michael was subjective about Owen. Spot the difference?

The problem with the health system in America is not that it has private health services, rather it is nearly-all funded by private insurance that leaves some people without cover.

A lot of European countries, and Canada, for example, have privately-run health services but the difference with America is, that when comes to paying for it, the health insurance is national and compulsory, with people who can't afford it getting it paid for them by the government.

That doesn't make sense to me: wanting to divide one island and unite another.

To me supporting both of those opposing positions are just a sort of trendy idea (at the moment).
