Let's roll with it.

It's a great Film regardless, but I've got to actually watch it's sequels one day.

Great message Mock, glad you included Die Hard, it's an all time favourite. Thank you for mentioning me, it's an absolute pleasure to do this on an annual basis but it's all of you who make it so special with your contributions. Thanks for taking part.

You deserve the mention Kate.:)

And Die Hard is a classic Film imo, I watched it for the first time last year (I think it was last year) and it was far more entertaining than I was expecting tbh, I really enjoyed it.

My turn today. As some of you may remember, my mother passed away in early November. She'd had a few close calls with death over the last decade or so, but there's only so many fights you can win. She was 72 and on account of her ill-health over the past 7-8 years, I'd been mentally preparing myself for the day she'd die. But of course, you never wake up thinking today's going to be the day. And whatever level of mental preparation you do isn't ever quite enough to shield you from the initial pain. Her passing so close to Christmas, you might think there's not much I can be thankful for. But there are a few things. Chief among them, I'm thankful it was quick, and I'm thankful she was with the people she loved most, and who loved her the most. I shall leave you all with a poem I found while looking among a stack of them that the celebrant provided us with. I didn't end up using it for the funeral as there was another poem that felt was more applicable and that my father needed to hear (he's had a tougher time accepting my mother's death, and so I chose one of those you are stronger than you think-type pieces to be read out), but if there's any lesson to be taken from the passing of a loved one, this is that lesson:

Quote:

She Is Gone

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
And so my Christmas message is that I hope we're all reunited with the ones we love in the next life or at the end of time or whenever. I've been uncharacteristically sappy enough with this message, so I won't go overboard and pick an equally sappy Christmas song. Here's the joyously twisted Making Christmas from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Aww that's a beautiful message Chalk, that poem is really lovely too and it's true. I'm a firm believer in talking about the person often to keep them with us. I hope you and your dad have a nice Christmas despite the circumstances this year. I'm sure your mother is so proud of you and how you're dealing with all this and how you're helping your dad

Kate! 23-12-2023 06:31 AM

Dear Chalk

Niamh has put it perfectly in her post above. I echo her sentiments. Thinking of you and anyone who's lost someone dear this year. God bless you.

Your message was really touching. Its nice that you've stayed with us after BB. You've a place in our hearts.

Xx

Ammi 23-12-2023 08:25 AM

…such heartfelt thoughts……we don’t lose those people we’ve loved and who have been the most meaningful in our lives, we carry them always in our hearts because they’ll never stop being a part of who we are…one of the things that I’ve found the most difficult with my mum’s passing is that she had no knowledge or memory of her life…as if it was a whole life lost…but I know that it wasn’t because she gave us everything she was for safe keeping…she gave us every beautiful memory that she was, we are her memory….

…wishing you and your dad some smiles this Christmas……

I definitely believe that we carry our loved ones with us. So they're not really gone and are in our hearts.

Ray. 23-12-2023 10:29 PM

Thank you all once again for your very kind words.

It's Christmas Eve! I'm excited, because I get four days off! :amazed:
I'm going to lock my door, put my phone on silent and just pretend I'm not home! :hehe:
The TV during the holidays is very good. There's the soaps, so many festive movies and TV shows to catch up on.
My favourite is definitely Home Alone. It
:wavey:always makes me laugh.
This scene is epic!

This is another Christmas song that I love

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
