I'm thinking the reason Valencia is in ahead of Nani each week is because of Nani having signed a new contract and seemingly off in the summer.

Ryan57 17-04-2013 07:17 PM

TONY V!

Has looked better today, tbh.

bbfan1991 17-04-2013 07:34 PM

Glad we got the equaliser. I enjoy watching Shinji Kagawa and I loved his part in the equaliser which Antonio Valencia scored.

The lads shall be getting a hairdryer at half time;).

Dirty Bastards West Ham are.

Nolan should of been booked by now and Carroll on De Gea.

That challenge on De Gea by Carroll annoyed me and I am surprised that the donkey did not get booked for it!

Ryan57 17-04-2013 07:59 PM

That was pathetic marking from Wayne Rooney.

Legend killer 17-04-2013 08:40 PM

Credit where credit is due. Tony you have stunk the place out all season but you played bloody well today (even though I thought you would miss that goal)

However I am fuming at Fergie. Firstly stop playing Rooney in midfield/as our number 10 because he cant control nor pass the ****ing ball. The fact he is playing in front of Shinji makes me fume even more. Bench him or play him up top SIMPLE

And why the **** did he sub our best player in Shinji??? Made zero sense

That said solid result Upton Park is a hard place to win at

Manchester United flop Bebe has revealed the woeful state his of relationship with boss Sir Alex Ferguson and made the astonishing claim that he has never taken life at Old Trafford seriously.

Bebe joined United for £7.4million from Vitoria de Guimaraes in August 2010 but has so far failed to establish himself in the team - and has never started a game in the Barclays Premier League.

The young winger is currently on loan at Portuguese club Rio Ave, and claims he struggled to understand Fergie's Glasgow dialect and that the United boss failed to recognise him after he had a haircut.

Bebe said in an interview with maisfutebol.iol.pt: 'I never took Manchester United seriously and never understood a word about what Alex Ferguson was saying.
'I thought: "I’m here, I’m doing well and I don’t have to try hard every day. It was my fault. I was messing around too much".'

And he laid bare the communication problems which led to difficulties in his relationship with Ferguson.

'I went into the room and saw that he was looking for me, very concentrated. He told me to cut my hair, it will look better. So I cut it the same day. In the next training session, he didn’t recognise me. I went passed him many times and he didn’t know me.

He didn’t speak much but I didn’t understand much. He has a difficult accent, so I understood nothing.

'He called me "Baby". After I told him it wasn’t like that.'
He also believes that the legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo hanging over the club is to blame for a poor working bond between the manager and midfielder Nani - and gave a theory behind the famous 'hairdryer treatment'.

'When he shouts at a player it is to help him so he feels he can do more. For example, he shouted at Nani many times. He always found a problem in everything he did. Probably because he thought he could be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo.'

But for all the strife, Bebe does have some fond memories of his time in England.
'One day I've passed the ball through Ryan Giggs' legs. And he told me: "Go on, go tell your mother you did this to Ryan Giggs".'

He also paid tribute to staff at the club - and to several Portuguese speaking team-mates who helped him bed in.

'It was incredible. The people at the club helped me a lot - I learned a lot there. The first week was difficult. I was very nervous and I didn’t speak to anyone. I just wanted to be be alone and observe.

'Anderson and Nani helped me most, of course, because they speak Portuguese and Patrice Evra. I lived with Anderson for two months. He showed me the club and the city. I will always be grateful for this.'

The 22-year-old said he thought agent Jorge Mendes was joking about being wanted at Old Trafford.

The move in August 2010 came five weeks after a free transfer to Vitoria de Guimaraes from Portuguese Second Division side Estrela.

He is currently on loan at mid-table Portuguese club Rio Ave and said: 'It was all very sudden and unexpected. I was on the train and the club president of Vitoria called me. He said I had to go very quickly to Jorge Mendes’ house. When I arrived, Jorge gave me the news, asking: Do you want to go to Manchester United? Yes? Let’s go. I didn’t believe him. I thought he was joking, honestly.

'I don’t know if the value was right or not but I know that Mr Ferguson believed the information they gave him.'

Yet he did not rule out a return to Old Trafford one day.
'I want to go back and everything indicates I will. But if I don’t play, I would prefer to go to another team. I want to continue to develop.
'I speak regularly with coaches. They want to know how I am doing. This motivates me and gives me hope.'

His attitude stinks as much as he did when he was homeless.

I bet Nani still hardly plays. Fully expect Kagawa, Rooney or Welbeck to start on the wing. None of which are wingers. Shame really.

I'm meh when it comes to Ashley Young, although it is disappointing that he is out now with this injury.

Boss: We played like champions

Quote:

Sir Alex Ferguson was satisfied after his Manchester United side twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at West Ham and move a point closer to the title.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=0,43,602,267

In the 77th minute of a feisty encounter at Upton Park, Robin van Persie equalised from close range to leave the Reds needing a maximum of six points from the remaining five games to clinch a 20th English league crown.

Antonio Valencia had earlier cancelled out Ricardo Vaz Te’s header with his first goal of the season but the home side were up for the fight and retook the lead early in the second half through Mohamed Diame’s wonderful strike.

“We had to stand up to a lot but our players kept going,” Sir Alex said. “We were behind twice but we came back and I thought we played like champions.

“We were magnificent in terms of our determination and courage to play. We don’t like losing and we showed that again tonight so I was pleased with the result.

“It’s a game closer to the title. We have five left – three at home, two away – and the players are showing they want to win it. There’s no doubt about that. We’ve got a nice cushion with our lead but we don’t want to make any mistakes."

After van Persie’s leveller, United poured forward in search of a winner but found Jussi Jaaskelainen in inspired form in the Hammers goal.

“We were the team that was going to win it," Sir Alex said. "I think their goalkeeper saved them in the last 20 minutes. He made great saves from Robin and Chicharito, and Wayne Rooney had a shot cleared off the line.

“Everything was happening around their penalty box but we couldn’t finish them off. We had enough time to get a winner but maybe we needed a wee bit of composure to take a touch on the ball. One or two wanted to shoot earlier rather than take a pass.

"We probably deserved more, but in the context of such a physical game, I think we should be proud of them. It was a display of real champions."

Sir Alex praises battlers

Quote:

Sir Alex Ferguson feels his players stood up to the physical examination offered by Andy Carroll in particular during the 2-2 draw at West Ham.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=0,30,585,247

David De Gea was flattened by an X-rated challenge by the on-loan Liverpool striker at the end of the first half, which the boss believes warranted a red card. However, referee Lee Probert did not even deem it a bookable offence, although he did later caution Carroll following another tussle with the keeper.

Nemanja Vidic was also caught by a stray elbow from the Hammers' star man and was clearly still unhappy with the challenge as he left the field at the end.

Sir Alex is proud of the way his players responded and had words of praise for De Gea, who has been subjected to some untidy aerial challenges in recent weeks.

"We know how they play," said the manager. "The ball is in the air most of the time and you have to defend those things. They were very aggressive as you’ve seen tonight.

"There’s no doubt it’s a red card [for the challenge on De Gea]. It’s obvious. The referee saw it differently. We’re looking for players to be protected and didn’t get that.

"David has been improving all the time and is developing into a fantastic keeper. It’s just a matter of experience in the English game – he’s got stronger. His training performances are really good and he’s shown that again tonight. As we’ve been saying for quite a while, he’s developing into a first-class goalkeeper.

"Vidic has a badly bruised jaw [area] but I don’t know what happened in that situation. He’s certainly got a nice bruise on his cheekbone.

"It was like the Alamo at times but we stood up to it and that’s the important thing. Never at any time did we show a lack of courage, so they did really well and I’m pleased with them."

Manchester City have a game in hand on the Reds and could reduce the deficit further in Sunday’s clash at Tottenham. However, the England international has stressed the 2-2 draw at West Ham was a good result in the context of the race for the trophy.

“Definitely,” he replied when asked by MUTV if he was still confident of lifting the title. “We’ve been confident throughout the season and nothing is going to change now.

“We’ve got a big game against Aston Villa on Monday night and I’m sure, if we can pick up three points there, it will stand us in great stead for Arsenal [the following Sunday].

“We knew we were going to be put under pressure with a lot of high balls and I think Rio [Ferdinand] and Vida [Nemanja Vidic] dealt with it well. It was a good point in the end. West Ham are no pushovers with big, strong players and I thought we coped with it.”

Veseli blow confirmed

Quote:

Under-21 boss Warren Joyce has confirmed that Frederic Veseli looks likely to miss the remainder of the season through injury.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...gn=0,1,600,224

The versatile defender was taken off on a stretcher during the 1-0 win against Tottenham on Monday after pulling up in pain as he chased a through ball by Larnell Cole.

Veseli, who was signed from Manchester City last year, has performed in a number of roles for Joyce's side and has adapted well to a holding midfield position.

“It’s his hamstring,” Joyce informed ManUtd.com. “It’s frustrating for him as he he’s had a good run of form recently and frustrating for us as well as we are quite thin on the ground.”

The news means that Veseli is out of the next league game - away to Wolves on 26 April - following the postponement of the Old Trafford fixture with Liverpool that was originally scheduled for Friday night.

Veseli was replaced by Tyler Blackett at the Salford City Stadium with the powerful defender slotting into a right-sided midfield role.

I wish him a speedy recovery:).

Evra unfazed by lack of praise

Quote:

Patrice Evra is unfazed by a lack of praise from some quarters regarding Manchester United's form this term and the questions about whether or not the current squad has what it takes to match the achievements of those from the past.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/FCAD6A...n=0,43,768,327

The Reds have a 13-point lead over closest challengers Manchester City and recently set a new top-flight win record with 26 victories from the opening 32 games. Nonetheless, United's form and the quality of the squad has still been called into question.

Evra insists no-one inside the club is concerned. Instead, he and his team-mates are simply focused on completing the task at hand: winning the league.

“I think this is why you play for Manchester United. People want to see Manchester United fall down," he told PA Sport and talkSPORT. "In the seven years I have been here, it is always the same. When you lose one game it is like the end of the world. It has always been like that. If you don't accept this pressure, you can't play for Manchester United. But we need that also.

“In the beginning of the season, we were not playing well, but we always come back after losing 1-0. We keep winning. We are a marathon team. People forget that. The league is not a sprint – it is a marathon. People just want to see us playing well in big games against City or Liverpool, but this is not the way to win a league. Of course you want to win against the big teams, but it is about how many games you win.

"I thought: 'Why are people talking?’ We are 13 points clear but they keep saying ‘Manchester United, Manchester United’… in the end if we get to lift the trophy we will see who is right.

"Last year, I remember when we lost the league, everyone said City was better than us and that they played the best football. I admit we didn't play well, but in the end we finished on the same points," added the French defender.

“In my last interview [last season] I said that if Manchester United got the consistency back, maybe we could win the league by 10 points. I said it at the end of the season, not now. For the moment I am wrong – it is 13 points and we hope to keep it as that.

"I always believe in Manchester United. I didn't say it to make the fans, or the staff or my team-mates happy. I said it because it is the truth. When we are consistent, even if we don't play well, the most important thing in football is winning games and that is the case of Manchester United.”

Spot on Patrice! I love his interviews and his affection for the club in general.

No fresh injuries

Quote:

Sir Alex Ferguson will send bruised but unbowed players into Monday night's big game against Aston Villa.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/F26E89...gn=0,0,600,447

The Reds emerged from the midweek trip to West Ham with a few minor knocks, but these seem unlikely to disrupt the manager's plans for the visit of Paul Lambert's young side.

"We’ve got a few bumps and bruises from Wednesday," reported Sir Alex on Friday. "Vidic had got a beautiful bruise on his cheekbone and after coming out of that war zone, we’re quite happy no-one was seriously injured.

"The team were fantastic the other night in terms of standing up [to West Ham]. It’s the type of game you get with Big Sam [Allardyce]’s teams. We had to deal with it and I think a point was well deserved.

"We maybe could have won it in the last 20 minutes when we had all the play and one or two chances. Nonetheless you have to be satisfied coming back after being down twice and getting a point. The last two away games [Stoke and West Ham] have shown how determined we are to win the league. I've admired my team in these games. We've done very well."

The boss has the weekend to further assess his players as he prepares for another pivotal match in the push towards the 20th league title.

"Every game now seems to be more important than the last one. When you get nearer to that line that’s the way it is. I have the same squad for Monday and hopefully we'll pick the right team."

Good news:).

Boss on Rooney rumours

Quote:

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has played down talk of Wayne Rooney joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=0,62,550,265

Rumours of a move to the French capital intensified earlier this week when a former advisor to PSG and current owner of media outlet Le Sport 10, Michel Moulin, claimed a deal was "done".

"I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done," Moulin said on French television. "He will be at PSG next season."

But Sir Alex Ferguson, responding to journalists' questions on Rooney's future at his Friday morning press conference, cast doubt on the PSG link.

"I don't think there is anything in that at all," the boss said.

Speculation surrounding a potential summer exit for Rooney increased on Wednesday evening when Sir Alex substituted the no.10 during United's 2-2 draw at West Ham.

"As far as taking him off the other night, it was simple: he wasn't playing as well as Shinji Kagawa was," he said. "In so many games Wayne Rooney is better than most players. But on the night Shinji was playing so well."

Spot on SAF. I do not think that Wayne Rooney will leave in the Summer!

bbfan1991 19-04-2013 06:43 PM

Shinji sub explained

Quote:

One of the talking points from Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham arose when Sir Alex Ferguson opted to take off Shinji Kagawa, who had been one of United’s best players, with 12 minutes left.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=0,32,600,255

The Japan international had just created the Reds’ second equaliser with a shot that hit both posts and fell to Robin van Persie, when he was replaced by Javier Hernandez.

A few minutes earlier, Ryan Giggs had been brought on in place of Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex admitted he should probably have left Shinji on as the Premier League leaders hunted a winner.

The United manager said: “As far as taking Rooney off the other night, it was simple: he wasn’t playing as well as Shinji was. In so many games Wayne is better than most players but on the night Shinji was playing so well.

“The ironic thing was, when we were chasing a goal with 14 minutes left, I decided to put Chicharito on and Shinji made the second goal.

“I’d already given the fourth official the card, Chicha was standing on the touchline and then we scored the second goal. I think if I’d have changed my decision then we would have won it.

“Shinji was doing really well but unfortunately he came off. Chicha came on simply because you always think he’ll get a chance in the game. At that point we wanted to win it and you make decisions like that that maybe are not fair.”

Shinji has impressed in recent games, playing either on the left or just behind a striker, and also made United’s first goal at Upton Park for Antonio Valencia after a neat one-two with van Persie opened the Hammers up.

“He’s doing very well for us now,” Sir Alex added. “He has fantastic composure on the ball and his decision-making is good. He has a good selection of passes; he seems to always pick the more sensible pass.

“And he made a terrific first goal. There were a few involved in that build-up but he had the composure to take the player on in a tight area and roll the ball to Valencia for a tap-in. He’s doing very well.”

I agree with SAF that Shinji Kagawa is doing well, he is an intelligent player and his true quality as a player is showing. I am so excited by his potential!

Young ruled out for season

Quote:

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed to MUTV that Ashley Young will miss the rest of the season through injury.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...gn=0,1,534,199

The winger damaged his ankle in the Manchester derby on 8 April and attended the draw at West Ham on crutches.

As well as missing the visit of his former club Aston Villa on Monday, the England international will play no further part in the campaign as the Reds strive to win a 20th title.

"Ashley is out for the season," the boss told MUTV. "It's unfortunate and it's a bad blow.

"We thought it'd be maybe two or three weeks but now he's been down to the specialist and that's why you saw him at the game on Wednesday.

"We took him down to a specialist in London and the prognosis was not very good at all. We're going to lose him for the rest of the season."

It is a blow to Young, who has made 17 starts and two further substitute appearances in the Barclays Premier League this term but has suffered a couple of injury lay-offs.
Disappointing...
