Two years ago a deal was very much still expected and now it's looking impossible so that immediately makes the article less relevant to the current situation. Secondly, the focus is on the long-term prospects which really apply more to business and the wealthy who can afford to "ride the waves". The short-term impact is looking to be a disaster for the middle and working classes, i.e., "normal people with normal lives".

The current situation is unprecedented. I wasn't particularly worried in 2017. I thought Brexit was a mistake but fully expected there to be a trade deal in place by the point of exit - just one that would be a bit of a drag on the economy. I am extremely worried right now. I don't trust that the current government is "prepared" for no-deal in the slightest and I think it's going to happen. I think there will be very noticeable immediate food and medicine shortages. I know that jobs will be lost. I think people and families will end up in debt/poverty spirals. I think lives will be ruined.

A recent read:
https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/br...plained-496259

It gives more negatives of a no deal but is interesting reading.

Leave with no deal and then the EU will come grovelling to us.

That's what's gonna happen.

I thought you were leaning more to the intelligent side, so to speak....and calling me a **** :fist:

Then instantly editing it.....makes you a bit like one, no?

Say it and take the ban, instead of being so lefty.

This is the problem with brexiters, they have an inflated sense of self worth. The UK is not a major power and it hasn't been for a very long time and there will be no one in the EU begging us to come back, if anything the way things are going, we're going to be begging for deals with whoever we can and we're destined to basically be the US' bitch.

Brexiters were gullible enough to believe a lot of bull**** about the EU and they claim that this is about freedom but they just want to make us turn tricks for Trump at this point. We are not in a position of power, Brexiters have marched us off the cliff and now we're looking for a bit of debris to hang on to stop us from drowning. To think that the EU will beg us to come back is just plain delusional.

As someone from outside the UK I would like to comment on this whole mess.

The UK is like the abused housewife that has announced her intentions to divorce her bad husband but can never quite get the courage to do it. She'll only divorce if she can get the husband to agree on a good deal (custody of the children, etc.). The husband of course is not going to agree to these terms because he thinks his wife deep down is too chicken-**** and she won't leave him. And he is right. He's going to make it as difficult as possible for her.

It's been 3 years already. It's time to get on with this. I'm not even from the UK and I am tired of hearing about this. If WTO is the best you can do, then so be it. If you think the EU was going to make it easy on the UK to leave, you haven't the faintest clue how this world really works. It was always going to be a messy divorce. In the short term it's probably going to be an unpleasant transition but the economy will come back. Just get it over with.

If you think WTO rules are bad, ask your ancestors who lived through WW2 how bad that was. That generation had courage. They had to deal with bombs landing in their cities. And you are worried that the price of bread (or whatever) might go up a little if their is no trade deal? Get a backbone.
