Eeeek to this,The Circus is the 4th best selling album of the decade and they're the 2nd best artist just after The Beatles! BRILLIANT!

Quote:

Guitar bands have enjoyed a good decade, with Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Snow Patrol and The Killers all featuring in the top 10 best-selling albums of the decade.

Only By The Night, Kings of Leon's fourth album, was released in 2008 and is credited with transforming the Tennessee band from a niche to a mainstream act.

It was also a successful decade for British artists, with Amy Winehouse, Take That and Duffy recording hugely successful albums. Winehouse's Back to Black, released in 2006, was the decade's second highest-selling long-player, followed by Coldplay's 2005 work X&Y.

However, the list of best-selling artists of the decade tells a slightly different story.

Four decades after they split, The Beatles come top, boosted by sales of 1, their greatest hits compilation, in 2000 and the re-release of all their previous albums earlier this year.

The enduring popularity of long-standing acts is also demonstrated by the presence of Bob Dylan and U2.

Top 10 best-selling albums of the decade:

1. Only by the Night – Kings of Leon

2. Back To Black – Amy Winehouse

3. X&Y – Coldplay

4. The Circus – Take That

5. Hopes and Fears – Keane

6. Rockferry – Duffy

7. Come Away with Me – Norah Jones

8. Eyes Open – Snow Patrol

9. Scissor Sisters – Scissor Sisters

10. Day & Age – The Killers

Top 10 best-selling artists of the decade:

1. The Beatles

2. Take That

3. The Killers

4. Coldplay

5. Michael Jackson

6. Snow Patrol

7. Robbie Williams

8. Bob Dylan

9. U2

10. Kings Of Leon

Nice actually

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 12:03 AM

That is quite some achievement.

Princess 17-12-2009 12:06 AM

Eeek I know  I'm so proud! Especially considering they weren't even around for the first half of the decade.

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 12:09 AM

You must have been buying their music like crazy. :)

Princess 17-12-2009 12:10 AM

LOL! I do have quite a bit....

InOne 17-12-2009 12:13 AM

Alright Princess, with loving a band like TT, that do very well, say they went for a XMas number 1 (And I bet they could write a decent song for it) You'd be pissed at the X Factor lot always getting it yeah? Imagine if Joe beat them to number 1, come on, you'd be outraged!

First of all you can call me Laura :p And I've already bought 2 couples of his single(well one,I downloaded as well). The thing that annoys me about the campaign is exactly that,it's a campaign. If people genuinely like the song, then whatever they can buy it if they like. But they're just buying it to beat The X Factor which is just moronic. TXF single always get to Number 1 cos people like it. And TT were beaten to 1993 Christmas Number 1 by Mr Blobby, hmph.

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 12:31 AM

I am actually shocked to read you are missing 7 singles Laura!

Ssssh, they're old and hard to get! I put them on my Christmas list as 'Buy if cheap on ebay please' and my Dad said one cost like 70 pounds and he wasn't gonna pay that for a single :p

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 12:52 AM

Sounds expensive! I paid £35 each once for 2 albums and that was many years ago. Older stuff can be hard to come by. That's why I like looking round markets and rooting in second hand shops for stuff. It doesn't happen much but sometimes you can stumble on a bargain.

Well didn't know if we were on first term names yet!!! Well I don't like the song chosen against it, but i'd rather than that beat it than another predictable X Factor number 1 you know? You are about my age, and I bet when we were kids we used to get excited not knowing who was going to be number 1, well I did anyway!!! X Factor is killing the music industry, and by getting the christmas number 1 the last few years comfirms it. So it should be stopped anyway really, even if this is a bad way. This is not what the Christmas number 1 is about and the 'campaign' is just a prostest against it.

We don't have many of those here but I do always look when I find one. Would love to complete my collection!

Haha sorry,I like to think I'm on first name basis with everyone, lol! Yeah I do remember loving watching Top of the Pops at Christmas to see who was got the Number 1. The X Factor ain't killing the music industry, just dominating the charts a bit in the winter. I don't mind it getting Christmas Number 1,it's what people like,so whatever.

I often found the "Record Collecter" magazine useful. There is loads of stuff for sale in there. I don't know whether you have come across it before. I suppose it's for obsessives so it should suit you! I have bought a few things from private sellers who advertised in there before.

Princess 17-12-2009 01:26 AM

Haha 'obsessives' I like it :P I shall have a look out for it,thanks Baz!
