What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Nuff said.

Really happy with this week's top 10, with the exception of Daniel Merriweather.

Lyrics aren't everything. Its whether a song sounds good or not. I don't care about meaning tbh and for me Boom Boom Pow sounds a lot better

Haha I've always thought that aswell, lyrics don't matter to me really - I spose if they mean sumin then maybe but as long as it sounds good I like it.

Shaun 21-06-2009 05:45 PM

"I don't care about meaning".

Mmmkay. That's where I win then.

Tom 21-06-2009 05:47 PM

Why do you win? Why are lyrics so important? Not all of us care about what a song means, music is music. If it has crap lyrics but sounds good then it wins every time over one with good lyrics and sounding bad

Sam! 21-06-2009 05:48 PM

I love this songg, is a proper nice summer tune.

Music is an art-form.

Art without meaning is not art.

Shaun 21-06-2009 05:51 PM

I wonder if they had to get permission off Coldplay for this first... the similarities between it and "Clocks" are obvious :\

Sam! 21-06-2009 05:52 PM

Christt I love Raindrops aswell.

Shaun 21-06-2009 05:52 PM

Is it b*llocks.

Art can be art without meaning.

Not all music is art, hence manufactured music.

If you honestly believe what you just said then you seriously need to reassess some of the stuff you listen to.

Hugo 21-06-2009 06:03 PM

LOL at Boom Boom Pow being better than Where Is The Love.

Do feel free to point out said 'stuff'.

And yeah, I hate the majority of manufactured music- see the Jonas Brothers. Miley Cyrus.

art
1  /ɑrt/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [ahrt] Show IPA
–noun
1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

Do also show me what is beautiful, or of more than ordinary significance, about "Boom Boom Pow".

Ultimately, if you want to mindlessly bop around to some guys repeating "i'm on that next **** now, you're so two thousand and late", then go ahead. I prefer music that asks questions, that invokes emotion, that has a bloody purpose.

The fact that the majority of the top 10, some songs of which you said you like, is manufactured speaks for itself. If you truly liked music which asks questions etc then you wouldn't listen to half the stuff you do, so you're completely contradicting yourself and kidding yourself if you think you do listen to music for that purpose.

And in the definition, it says about aesthetic principles and appealing which imo fit the song.

Novo 21-06-2009 06:09 PM

I agree would have to agree with shaun on this

The main reason my favourite Artists are Tupac and BT&H are because off the meanings in their lyrics

Am unsure about the Art bit though i don't think anyone knows what art is nowadays there are that many comparisons

Ninastar 21-06-2009 06:15 PM

What was number one then?

You seem to be mistaking me for saying that all modern music is without meaning and is therefore ****.

I'm not, I'm saying that this particular song (Boom Boom Pow) is ****, especially when compared to their earlier material.

However, I would argue that today's music quality, on average, particularly in the mainstream, is distinctly worse than, say, the music of the 60s-80s. The shift from music into a 'video package' (Video really did kill the radio star, if you ask me), the commercialisation of music, the manufactured aspect, the talent shows such as Pop Idol, the easy accessability into music today (all you need is a MySpace page and a quirky image). Talent, skill, meaning are all just now seen as additional extras.

And if you're going to criticise what I listen to, I suggest you take into account the endless material of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Cure, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, motown, Oasis...etc. I possess.

No I'm not mistaking you for saying that, I'm just saying if you truly listen to music for the reasons you say you wouldn't listen to most of the stuff in the charts because most of it is manufactured and therefore without meaning.

Music is rubbish now in comparison to years ago but thats just because the landscape has changed and its more competitive now than it was, and its much easier to get into. But image was also very important between 60s and 80s so you can't just blame it on music videos. Top of the Pops used to be the most watched shows on TV especially before videos came around so you can't really blame it on videos.

And I'm not criticising what you listen to, I accept you listen to that kind of stuff but I just think your argument falls flat because of some of the stuff you do listen to.

Michael Jackson's music is seriously going to shake up the charts this Sunday, I think any new releases that were hoping for a good entry into the charts this week or the next week are gonna be sent down a few places.

Shaun 28-06-2009 03:07 PM
