But surely if they are filming 24/7 anyway all the staff are there, the cost of broadcasting the actual picture stays the same whatever is on the channel. They may need one extra person (like a sound mixer or editor) but it wouldnt add a huge cost to show the live feed instead of teleshopping which they would earn far less than the price the adverts could command of a live show.

I enjoyed the live feed, lots of the good bits were muted out but 1 hour is better than nothing. Hopefully if they get big ratings on the live feeds they will slowly increase the number of days or hours we get it.

Teleshopping is basically one constant advert. It's probably a far better revenue stream than convincing advertisers to take about 12 minutes an hour of adverts for some stream of a house that not a lot of people watch.

It could cost thousands of pounds an hour to beam the stream from Elstree to Channel 5 to homes. None of us really know. I remember somone quoting the figure it cost Channel 4 to do it online in 2010 and it was massive. Half a million or something like that.

But I don't see how beaming the stream from the house or beaming the stream from a recorded shopping channel loop is any different in cost, surely its just a flick of a switch. The big brother program is being filmed and produced 24 hours a day and those are costs which are already a given.

I'm sure the actual viewing figures on 5* are much higher than they would be if teleshopping was on and surely potential revenue is dictated by how many eyes are watching which is the way is has been for half a century.

Teleshopping isin't live. Channel 5 are just popping a tape in the machine [or more than likely opening a file on a computer and clicking play but that doesn't sound as romantic].

Putting a live show to TV is another matter entirely. It costs a lot more. It's not just 'flicking a switch' it's sending stuff to mother****ing space and then sending it back to planet Earth. Live as it happens.

Yeah the stream is running at Elstree all the time but it's just going straight to hard disk to be edited for a highlights show.

If the live stream was earning more revenue than airing prerecorded footage - be it Teleshopping on 5* or Gilmour Girls on Channel 4 - then I'm sure these networks would be giving us the feed. After all they want to make money.

But they're not. They stopped.

This.

It costs air time or internet bandwidth and a 24/7 legal team, they stopped doing it because they could make more from ads by airing repeats now the show isn't as popular.
