Not all religions or religious people are against gay people though.

The Quakers for instance campaigned for a change in law to allow same sex marriage. Also the Liberal Jews, unitarians and Free Christians would like to perform SSM too.

Even catholics are slowly changing their views. Congregation, not so much hierarchy, bishops etc..

All ok as long as you both leave off my Clooney.

Late in on this thread but surely a reality TV show needs to show reality and if that means the sad bigoted views of a broken down ex boxer are aired then so be it...

His views are his views , and although I do not share those views he is entitled to hold those views however toxic.

BB only warned him to create a storm and put the show in people's minds due to the fact that everyone is talking about it.

Well done BB and Channel 5 .... Job done !!!

Almost mine too. I still would, but I'd feel a bit funny.

Erm...I thought this thread started getting quite hippy, loveable then this?

All I said was I have been mocked and laughed at for walking hand in hand with my boyfriend and it literally stopped me from doing it again.

Yes I compared racism and homophobia saying both things make the people on the receiving end go through hell.

Im sorry did I say something wrong or is someone just on their period?

I didn't know that about The Quakers but if that's true its awesome, I cant see the Catholics being to up for it though even though the Priests do love a bit of early teen willy....To harsh?

That's exactly what I said when I started the thread (ooh im a poet).

Reality tv should not be censored however offensive it is.

You could change it to some priests :D

Say something homophobic if you want a long discussion.
Are people not beyond this by now?
As Oregon advises Vod to say "something homophobic" if she wants to scupper her election chances. Political correctness has become the stuff of parody. Time to move to the next level of discussion. Beyond taboo.

100%. Let it provoke discussion.

he's was not advocating violence or hate. he did show that he was unbelievably naive and wrong but ignorance is not hate. people need to stop thinking so black and white with issues like this.

what evander said was wrong and i disagree completely with it and with him but id rather he say something like what he said and have people recognize it and maybe try and make him see things differently then for him to just be misinformed and uneducated about the subject and live with his own ignorance.

just because someone does not share your views does not mean they do so because of malice hate or homophobia it could simply mean they don't know and haven't been made to see it any differently.

some people on here just need to cool it with the dramatics a bit.

and yes im gay and despite evander's views i still like him as a housemate.

Interesting article I read on another site

Writing for PinkNews.co.uk, Richard Smith says the reaction to Evander Holyfield’s homophobic remarks on Celebrity Big Brother shows “the gay public realm has been hijacked by new puritans – bullies, censors, bores.”

Are you watching Celebrity Big Brother?

No, neither am I.

But some gayers have now got their overpriced underpants in a twist cause someone on CBB has said… something bad about The Gays!

Imagine.

BURN THE WITCH!!!

The accused, Evander Holyfield is a boxer, and a man who – let’s face it – neither you nor I had ever heard of before.

Oh, apart from some vague folk-memory about Mike Tyson having bitten a bit of his ear off long long ago.

Anyway, the other day Mr Holyfield said something nutty on Celebrity Big Brother about how he thinks being gay is wrong and that it could – and should – be cured.

As back up, he said it says in the Bible it’s wrong.

Case closed!

The man and his quarter-baked opinions are clearly an antiquated joke.

He’s a born-again idiot.

A bigot.

But instead of laughing this off some gay men have taken great offence.

Even complaining to Ofcom!

There’s probably a pointless online petition somewhere.

‘If you are mildly annoyed click your mouse now – then everything will be okay forever’.

But why?

Because people must not think bad thoughts or say things we don’t agree with?

Newsflash – Celebrity Big Brother is a reality TV show.

People watch it because it might show some vague semblance of reality.

So why be surprised – never mind horrified – when a real person says something that many real people really think?

This faux outrage over the slightest slight – sorry, ‘hate-filled anti-gay slur’ – has become a gay cliche.

Like when another vacuous Hollywood celebrity has said he’s not that keen on gay marriage.

Who cares what he thinks? He’s a vacuous Hollywood celebrity!

Just the other week there was some redneck on something called Duck Dynasty who also said something bad about The Gays?

I bet you never saw his TV show either, did you?

But he must be silenced – the gay thought police say NO! – and so he was suspended by the television station.

Why?

Because some thoughts are unbroadcastable, unsayable, now even unthinkable.

The gay public realm has been hijacked by new puritans – bullies, censors, bores.

Bedwetting pearl-clutching fools, desperate to take offence at anything and everything.

Privileged people painting themselves as victims.

There are so many things that are wrong in this world, why waste time on something as trivial as this?

When our mad right-wing enemies talk about a “gaystapo” – a new McCarthyism – it’s at times like this I increasingly think they may actually have a point.

And I worry our knee-jerk hysterical over-censoriousness is making us look like a joke.

Some people are still bigots – can we get over it, please?

Richard Smith is an independent journalist. His blog about gay men and the media – Fagburn – was nominated for Stonewall’s publication of the year 2013.

Richard Smith is an attention seeking little gay boy but yes I agree with what hes saying to a certain degree. Hes not conveying it very well though.

The The accused, Evander Holyfield is a boxer, and a man who – let’s face it – neither you nor I had ever heard of before comment?

WHAT? Evander Holyfield is a big deal world champion, media frenzied boxer.

And the "Are you watching Celebrity Big Brother? No, neither am I." comment kind of makes his "article" pretty pointless. If you're not watching then how can you even be qualified to write an article on it.

Wow, that whole article is terrible. Seriously, people pay this guy? :conf:

"Can we get over it now please?". Erm, if you weren't watching and have never heard of Evander Holyfield, surely this whole issue shouldn't even get your attention? Who chooses to get involved in something they could easily ignore and then demands people let it go? :D

Also, it's not JUST gay guys who are pissed off. Is Pinknews a gay site or something, because if it is this guy comes across as one of those who's trying desperate to distance himself from the typical gay guy by throwing insults around. "Look at me, I'm a progressive gay, I'm not like my mincing, queenie brethren!". I'm not really interested in being a part of "the gay community" either, but I don't need to go on the offensive to prove a point.

Personally, I'm not highly offended by the comment because it's not something that everyone goes around believing. I do get why it pissed people off though, you can't expect to compare being gay to being ill or disabled and not offend people.
