Explosive Cyclogenesis is the proper term

I was getting right freaked out last night because of the wind/blizzards and lots of flashes outside.

Just there it was light outside and now the blackness of the clouds have made it dark again, I can hear really loud rumbling too

/Scared

I think the whole of the western isles have no power at the moment!

Not too bad here, some new wet snow but winds are ok and it was a quite night. There are a lot of thunderstorms around.

Josy 10-12-2014 07:25 AM

Yeah I ws just reading that about the western isles, hope they get it sorted pretty quick.

I thought our power was going to go a few times last night but it held up.

Would much rather have snow than these high winds and rain tbh.

Josy 10-12-2014 07:34 AM

Theres a snow warning on for tomorrow LT, possible 10/15cm for anyone above 200 (that's me!) and a possible 2cm everywhere else, how accurate do you think that forecast is?

Josy 10-12-2014 08:24 AM

tis a blizzard here again now

Don't worry LT I will keep your thread updated :idc:

Its a fast moving situation so it is difficult for forecasters. I would imagine 10-15cm would be for areas at least 350m and above (how high are you?)

The track of the Thursday into Friday system is yet to be confirmed hence the reason the bbc forecasts at the mo stop at Thursday afternoon but they will form them up hopefully this afternoon and evening.

Just back from my morning jaunt across the valley and its bloody perishing :fist:

horizontal snow pellets stinging my face and making my chin go numb. The devil dog was fine chasing the crows. It was around 2C but in the wind it was prob -10C wind chill.
