I knew he would put Jedward 2.0 through. That was a given sadly.

The girls are the best single category in ages, idg the hate. But yeah the groups are vile.

Drew. 01-10-2016 08:59 PM

Samantha and Emily :clap1: the category as a whole seems really good.. think Emily could struggle with themed weeks though but she'll have a good career anyway

Yeah it's the same as always when a good quirky girl goes through to live shows (Abi Alton, Janet Devlin) and loses momentum because of the ridiculously terrible themes.

Daniel-X 01-10-2016 09:05 PM

Abi Alton and Janet Devlin were terrible.

Or not if they wanna keep the smallest amount of dignity the show still has.

Headie 01-10-2016 09:38 PM

Screaming the catladies are gonna hate her so much

Dignity? X Factor? :joker: what on earth am I reading on this forum tonight, that's akin to saying Big Brother is a classy programme lmao

And besides what's undignified about EDM? it's a pretty damn popular genre

To think it's the place where Leona Lewis came from, you would not believe it's still the same show to this day. It's never really been perceived as a 'joke' of a show until the last few years when the excessive amounts of ridiculous decisions have been made.

It wasn't really in regards to the genre - it was more so thinking about an entire episode being dedicated to club-like performances. It would be the worst theme imaginable.

Black Dagger 01-10-2016 09:50 PM

Emily isn't that quirky. She's just a bore with a guitar.

This, the themes only suit the majority most times! Cheryl wanted to get rid of them. But Emily can do a pop song well so i think she could do well and she has a judge who can help her better. I think Nicole didn't try with abi and kelly preferred misha b and Amelia. The only quirky girl to get the furthest was Diana Vickers.

Well I agree with that but - and I know this'll go down like a lead balloon on here - Leona's series was actually pretty ****? Most of the series post 2008 are better than the ones that preceded it  they took the show in an entirely new direction in Joe's year and it paid off massively - what does that tell you? It only faltered because Simon gambled on XF US and they've been desperate to repair the damage ever since, but all the chopping and changing has only made things worse

My point is that it goes way beyond the 'last few years'. We're talking since like 2009? That's a long time. It's an entertainment programme first and foremost, 'talent competition' second. If you genuinely want the latter then watch The Voice, and that falters because it lacks what XF has. I just don't understand why year in, year out people fall over themselves trying to be outraged at the predictable - and correct in terms of a TV production - decisions that are made, everyone should know the drill by now. It's better this way, The Voice proves why and so does the mess of last series. Just view it as the entertainment juggernaut it is and don't try to look for musical integrity on one of the biggest stains on that very thing, and you might enjoy it more

I don't think that would necessarily happen, often uptempo songs are slowed down and vice versa in a clear bending of the theme so it would probably end up being the same thing. It'd be a fun theme tbh

Well I think the fact that the show has run its course plays a large part in why people are bored of it now (as much as the kind of decisions that are made tbh), I don't remember Leona's series overly well but obviously only being the third series people were hooked on it and it was seen as better than it really was most likely more than if it were to air now, but the point I'm wanting to make here is that what is the real problem is how it's declined. It was inevitable after 13 years anyway but the quality of the show is terrible, it has become painfully obvious how set up and fake it all is and that's where the problem lies.

The Voice's main problem is the coaches imo and the format isn't the best either. Plus people are literally just burnt out on singing shows now. I enjoy entertainment, but I don't enjoy seeing the same thing happen year after year where genuinely talented people are eliminated at the expense of viewing value.

If up-tempo songs are slowed down though then people just moan about them dodging the theme and not being able to do anything different. :worry:

LukeB 02-10-2016 01:02 AM

I still can't believe Simon told Sam to take off her make up :worry: i still don't get why she had to.

Ross. 02-10-2016 09:18 AM

For the ~drama~

Liam- 02-10-2016 09:36 AM

Do they never learn? the 'quirky' girls that aren't actually quirky, that just stand there with a guitar are always trash, Emily is no different, I mean, she's not terrible but come on.

Gifty was amazing as always, so it's great that she went through.

Samantha is.. average, I don't really get her if I'm honest, she's just dull.

Caitlyn deserved a place at lives way more than Emily or Samantha </3

Cal. 02-10-2016 09:40 AM

Gifty is gonna be despised
