do the job fairly and well which 95% of the mods do, and there really would be no cause for complaint, I only complain about one.

Yes but the complaints about Dezzy are always to do with his posts as a member, not him as a mod, so I don't understand the complaints, you don't know that he isn't doing the job fairly? Only the other mods see what he does in that role.

I doubt that. Besides you really can't separate member from mod. In whatever role there is an expectation of setting the right example not the complete opposite.

i think there should be a 24 hour mod strike where there are no rules and no infractions/bans

it would be loads of fun :')

Jamie ,the complaints are about how people are treated by certain people, and the way they are spoken to,it costs nothing to be amicable and polite, failing that, just pass someones post by.

Doubt what though? It's true that we don't see what the mods do... only they see it. And member/mod status is separated, by very definition, when they're posting in threads they are doing so as a member, and if they make posts that people think are breaking the rules they can be reported and those reports are seen by the other mods, and when they give out infractions etc they're doing so as a mod and can be monitored and made accountable by other mods. Like I said before it's an unpaid job so I think it's unfair to have any expectations of them beyond that or to expect that someone who gains mod status should no longer feel like they can't post as they normally would as a member.

But even so, that doesn't mean that that person isn't doing a good job as a mod which is the accusation that's being made, it just means that they don't like that person or the way they speak to them, that has no bearing on their capabilities as a mod. And if someone feels they've broken rules because of how they've spoken to them then they can be reported to the other mods.

I mean johnnyuk used TiBB Eurovision (twice) to pretty much slag off Dezzy and a couple of the other mods and it was "hilarious" enough for him to win so

I think it's naive when all or most are about the same person. Paid or not if you represent a site where things such are baiting are infractional offences you don't then do it yourself on a pretty regular basis. It is double standards. Everyone is entitled to the odd slip but that's not what is being talked about.

Capabilities encapsulate behaviours.

Withano 21-03-2017 04:45 PM

What might be helpful is if literally anyone has an example of a post, which was ceated by a moderator, that they feel would ordinarily deserve an infraction

Cos at the moment you're sounding as if you're making a fuss over the ideas in your own head.

Want to make a point? Prove it exists.

But 'all or most' only come from a small number of people, I'd imagine that most of the people on the forum don't feel that way about Dezzy (certainly a lot don't) and so that must also stand for something, if we're taking into account that it's how people feel about him and his posts, But again, if anyone feels like he's baited or broken other rules then he can be reported and the other mods can look into it. And none of this has any bearing on his capabilities as a mod because it doesn't have anything to do with with what he does in that role (which like I mentioned before, we don't see).
It does just seem that there are a few people who don't like Dezzy's personality and that's what this boils down too, but because he's a mod it's easy to attack him by calling it a complaint about his moderating abilities, but it's flawed because whatever assumptions are being drawn, noone actually sees what he does as a mod... except the other mods who clearly don't feel like he isn't doing the job correctly - does that not stand for something too? I think it's actually quite cruel to attack someone in this way, someone who invests their personal time with no benefit to them in order to maintain the site we all use and keep it running, and to log on and have to read something like this.

If he is posting as a member he should be infracted as a member, I don't know any member that has the ability to delete posts if they don't agree with them

He might be getting infracted and not kicking off about it?

Yes but if he makes posts that are infraction worthy then you don't know that he isn't being infracted as a member, and if he isn't it's possibly because the other mods don't consider them to be infraction worthy. Personally I've seen a lot of posts of his that people have taken issue with that I haven't felt have broken rules, it's just been a case that people haven't liked his tone or the way he's spoken, but that isn't something that warrants an infraction, it's like I said in my other post, just a difference in personality. And when he deletes posts he's doing so as a mod, and he's accountable by the other mods for things like that, if he was deleting posts just because he didn't agree with them then the other mods would be aware of that (not to mention that there are a lot of posts he disagrees with and they don't get deleted, so that suggests that it isn't really true that he deletes posts that he disagrees with anyway).

He wouldn't do it if he didn't get something out of it. If you share similar opinions you aren't likely to be on the receiving end of it, but for those that are because they have differing opinions they have a better understanding of the situation. You have to have been there and all that.

Baiting is against the rules and he does do that quite a lot. Never seen him banned though.

I'm sorry Jamie but it's happened to me where I have posted a response and it's was deleted, this happened in a tit for tat situation, I reported it directly to Josy so I am not lying.

Maybe the way forward and so there is no conflict of interest if a mod is heavily involved in a discussion, another mod needs to moderate the thread, I think this might have been suggested earlier but it seems a way around the issue
