One thing I did find slightly bizarre; it didn't come with a charging cable .

Not really a problem as I already have two "proper Sony" ones on the PS5 (original controller and headset) but still, strange.

Still have my original one and it's still working perfectly. I had loads of issues on the 4 controllers for drift, though.

Same, no problems with the PS5 pad but I had one PS4 pad that had bad drift. Although… it was actually not my “main” one that I got with the console, which is fine still .

My white PS5 pad does actually have a minor issue with the trackpad but sticking slightly when used as a button. Minor because it’s only ever used as a map/menu opening button… it doesn’t really need to be responsive. Just slightly annoying.

However - there is always the possibility that my youngest got her sticky mitts on it at some point. Though it feels more like something is stuck under it. It needs a firm push and “clicks” down maybe 20% of the time.

Hmmm. I just read a thing about controller drift on why PS5 pad, and apparently, the “inner stick” is the exact same component made by the same company on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series S/X… and all can end up suffering from the same issue. Combination of pot luck, how hard you press the sticks, what games you play etc.

Not sure if anyone is still trying to grab one...

I actually can't believe the situation is still as bad as it is :umm2:. Really glad I just swallowed my pride and paid the extra £70 on eBay. I umm'd and ahh'd over it a bit because I was sure they'd be easy enough to get by the summer but here we are at the end of August and it's basically still the same .

What really peeves me is that it'll affect games development... if PS5 stock remains scarce, they'll keep developing games to be cross-gen and we won't see any real innovation, just PS4 games with slightly better graphics and faster loading times.

Yeah, it's absolutely mental. Are you still having issues sourcing graphics cards, too?

I like the fact they've finally made it clear that folks can only pick up one, but organised and determined shysters will find a way round it.

Apparently they released the Samsung guy from prison early after pressure from America and this was to speed up the building of new chip manufacturing plants. So, i don't think the situation will change much in the short term

Still basically impossible to find an RTX3080 for less than about £1250 which is just insane. The best you can reliably find at an actual retailer is a 3060ti, which is a slight improvement as those were scarce too at one point... but a 3060ti is basically only on par with the GTX1080ti I already have, other than it being able to do ray tracing to some extent (not even well).

I'm considering giving up on the desktop for a couple of years, trade in for maybe an RTX2070 laptop and just do the bulk of my gaming on PS5.

You might find this interesting about Amazons RPG frying graphics cards!

It's bigger than that though, there's a shortage of the basic component parts to manufacture the chips... for a multitude of reasons.

Apparently it'll all even out in the end but it's such a gargantuan industry, we're talking several more years for supply to catch up with demand. Huge ships with a small rudder etc. They're trying to turn, and they are turning, but it'll take a long time.

The elephant in the room is that it's not going to happen without good trading partnerships between China and the west (and west-adjacent countries like S.Korea and Japan).

And whilst of course gaming is of utmost importance :hee: there really are even larger implications - e.g. shortages of chips needed for manufacturing modern low-emissions cars, hybrids, and electric vehicles when there's a push to get away from fossil fuels. Not going to happen if they can't build the cars .

I'd actually heard about 3090's popping a while back when they were first released... people were recommending just going with the 3080 because of the high power drain and risk with the 90.

Interesting that he mentioned Horizon ZD towards the end there though - I gave that a go on the PC when it released last year to see how it compared to the PS4 (I played that to 100% back in 2017) ... but I stopped about 20 minutes in because I was getting serious framerate stutters and a few crashes-to-desktop, and actually one full system crash which just doesn't really happen these days. It's the only "bluescreen" I've seen in years. Maybe I'm lucky it didn't fry the card D:

Sony Japan
are now going to make its own Electronic Chips.

That is a great move.
