Letter to the DT
SIR – Humza Yousaf’s miscalculation in ending the SNP’s power-sharing deal
with the Greens would be remarkable were it not so unsurprising. His lack of political nous has been obvious for some time. He described the defection of Ash Regan, the former SNP MSP, to the Alba Party as “no great loss”. Now that she could decide his fate, she must ensure that she is not “bought off”. Her revenge would benefit everyone in Scotland. Richard Allison Edinburgh |
Yes LT
but he now says he will work with Ash Regan or any others from the Alba Party On new news reports |

[Humza Yousaf is considering quitting
as Scotland's first minister rather than face two confidence votes, BBC News understands. A source close to Mr Yousaf said that resignation was now an option but a final decision had not yet been taken. "The clock has been ticking ever downwards," the source told the BBC on Sunday night. Mr Yousaf has faced a fight for survival as first minister after abruptly ending the SNP's power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens last Thursday. He is understood to have ruled out a deal with Alex Salmond's Alba party, and his prospect of surviving a vote of no confidence in his leadership is now dependent on the Scottish Greens. He needs the support of at least one member of the opposition at Holyrood to survive the vote, which could take place as early as Wednesday. The parliamentary bureau, made up of the presiding officer and MSPs from the main parties, will decide this week when the vote takes place and normally gives two days notice. The SNP leader is expected to stand down following the collapse of the Bute House Agreement - his party's power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens - on Thursday. |
Lol what a disaster
Pretty much his only legacy will be the ridiculous hate speech law |
Worrying times indeed for the SNP now.
Is a new leader going to help however. Plus if he resigns, would the no confidence motion in the SNP government still go ahead? Because one no confidence motion was as to him. The other though, was as to the whole SNP as the government. |
he will pretty much be compelled to hold a scottish election as his last act. This is the end of SNP domination
|
Yes Mid Day

The same is true of the endless shower in England currently. I'm no Boris fan but I can at least say he had legitimacy - Truss and (especially) Sunak have presented themselves with an air of authority that they simply do not realistically have. IMO it's all actually part of why both he Tories and SNP have fallen so far recently. The public is quite clear on not wanting this. Technically we elect a party and the party votes for the head of the party. Technically. "The People" do not see it that way and have made this abundantly clear; the public wants figurehead leaders that were in place when they ticked the box. |
yeah, equally, they voted to keep Corbyn out, that was always about the leader of the party. The same is true of Miliband

Yousaf sought deal with Alba Party this morning, claims Salmond
Alex Salmond, the leader of the Alba Party, claimed Humza Yousaf was trying to do a deal to stay in power early this morning. He said Mr Yousaf “had phoned at half past seven this morning”. Mr Salmond told the BBC Radio 4 World At One programme: “At half past seven this morning he was trying to do a deal with Alba and complimented the proposals we had made as ‘very reasonable’. “The reason he didn’t do a deal with Alba is because there were forces within his own party who stopped him doing it. Let’s call them the old guard.” Mr Salmond also said the next SNP leader should not be appointed via coronation: “I do think the SNP membership should have a choice.” DT |
He's finally done something positive for Scotland.

Forbes giving ‘serious consideration’ to fresh leadership run
It is understood that despite John Swinney indicating he will run to become the next SNP leader, Kate Forbes is giving “serious consideration” to opposing him, writes Daniel Sanderson, our Scotland Correspondent. The 34-year-old former Finance Secretary is currently weighing up a second leadership bid, after she came close to defeating Humza Yousaf last year, in the face of overwhelming opposition from the party establishment. “Nobody doubts John’s longstanding commitment to the SNP,” an ally of Ms Forbes said. “But maybe the question to ask is to what extent is he the future? “Kate said last time continuity won’t cut it, and it didn’t. What is John if not continuity? Kate is still very popular with members and has been vindicated on almost everything she said in the last campaign. She is giving it serious consideration.” |
