The Premier League has sent a letter warning top-flight clubs to be vigilant about possible betting scams at academy level matches, BBC Sport understands.
The League's general secretary Mike Foster revealed that suspected overseas betting syndicates have been receiving details of matches on mobile phones. In one case, a man challenged at an under-18 match admitted he was working for an organisation in Hong Kong. The Premier League says it wants to stamp out illegal betting. And it is asking clubs to look out for strangers who are constantly using mobile phones during play. |
Liverpool are the club reported by Crewe over an alleged illegal approach to sign a player from their academy, BBC Radio Stoke understands.
Crewe's director of football Dario Gradi revealed on Monday his club had made the complaint and the player in question is 15-year-old Max Clayton. Liverpool were linked with Clayton in February 2008 and were willing to pay a six-figure sum to take him to Anfield. Liverpool told BBC Sport they had no comment to make. Crewe rejected Liverpool's initial approach for Clayton, but Gradi says the teenager now wants to leave the League Two outfit. He told the Daily Express: "Max has come in and told us that he wants to leave right now to join a big club. "You worry financially for the clubs where the players are stolen from |

Not very wise.
Italy are overrated; will be either Spain or Brazil I think - and if Argentina get through which they should then I wouldnt rule them out either. We will be there or thereabout as well. |

Ex-Arsenal Star Freddie Ljungberg Addresses Premier League Rumours
Seattle Sounders' Swede has not ruled out England return... Former Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg is under contract with the Seattle Sounders through the 2010 season, but has the rumour mill churning with a recent visit to London in which he reportedly met with representatives from the Emirates. The 32-year-old has kept quiet about speculation that he is seeking an loan to the Premier League during the MLS off-season, and responded equivocally when pressed on the issue. "I haven't decided what I want to do," he said. Ljungberg has adapted well to the MLS, being named captain in the 2009 league all-star star game against Everton, and endeared himself to local press. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer wrote: "The marquee player for America's nouveau soccer sensation, Seattle Sounders FC, Ljungberg has been the perfect player, the perfect personality, exactly the right choice, to sell the game and sell this team to this city." |
New Bordeaux deal for Chamakh will encourage Arsenal, West Ham 09.09.09 | tribalfootball.com An new contract for Marouane Chamakh may make it easier for the striker to leave Bordeaux, it has been revealed. Chamakh was priced out of moves to Arsenal and West Ham United in the summer, though both Premiership clubs are ready to try again in January. Bordeaux intend to offer the Morocco international a new deal through to 2012, but it will include an affordable buyout clause should Chamakh still be determined to leave. |
I said it before but no one seemed to pay attention..you should all adopt Seattle Sounders as your MLS club

Arsenal's Fran Mérida sets his sights on a first-team place Arsenal teenager Fran Mérida has set his sights on regular first-team football at the Emirates after revealing he turned down the chance of a loan move to Spain with Levante. The 19-year-old Spain youth international joined Arsenal from Barcelona's academy in September 2005 - a move which proved controversial and resulted in legal action being taken against the player for compensation. Since then, Mérida has looked to gain experience at Real Sociedad before returning to Arsenal and making his Premier League debut. After impressing in the pre-season Emirates Cup and coming off the bench in the 4-1 win over Portsmouth last month, Mérida hopes this can be his breakthrough campaign and intends to repay the faith shown by manager Arsène Wenger. "I am 100% staying," Mérida said. "It is true that I had an option to go out on loan. But I, the boss, my agent and my family decided that the best thing for me is to stay here. The boss told me he believes in me, and the only thing I can do now is prove it on the pitch and repay that faith. "My target is to help as much as possible to get trophies. I truly believe we have a fantastic chance. We have started well; we must keep that going, because we haven't done anything yet." He will be good (= I guarantee it. The next Fabregas. |
